Tom Ford has introduced a new unisex fragrance in the Private Blend range named Oud Minérale, which is presented as "Tom Ford's reinvention of oud, " an implicit reference to the fashion designer's pioneering role in making oud be part of the signature of YSL M7 as early as 2002...
Since then, oud has gone from being a "rare" ingredient to becoming completely mainstream in Euro-American perfumery. It's perfuming not only expensive scents but also body sprays and cheap colognes. See also The Scented Salamander's Oud Timeline to see how oud started exploding onto the perfume scene circa 2009.
Oud Minérale can be described as an oceanic oud. According to the brand,
"PRIVATE BLEND OUD MINERALE MERGES RARE AND PRECIOUS OUD WITH THE FRESH EXUBERANCE OF THE OCEAN, CAPTURING THE REFRESHING PLAY OF SURF AND SEA AGAINST THE BURNING FLAME OF SMOKED WOOD. TOM FORD'S REINVENTION OF OUD MARKS AN OLFACTIVE WATERSHED THAT PAIRS TWO OF THE WORLD'S MOST INTRIGUING ELEMENTS TO REVEAL TONALITIES BOTH EXHILARATING AND POWERFULLY TRANSCENDENT."
Tom Ford explains,
"I wanted to create something unexpected and new. By combining those two elements which come from totally distinct universes, one obtains a new interpretation of oud wood which is as addictive as it is inventive." [Translated from the French]
