Taking (in) Spring Lying Down // Se coucher devant le printemps © Chant Wagner 2018
This photograph makes me laugh, personally. It seems as if city dwellers have been vanquished by the sheer intensity of spring, their senses overwhelmed...
They need to lie down, take a rest, let their emotions course on the grass.
Behind this picture is actually an influence, that of a documentary on the Paris attacks - the January 2015 one, which saw the killing of several French draughtsmen. In it, a caricaturist was saying - and I forget who it was, sorry - that what he first saw upon entering the scene of crime where his friends / colleagues had been killed, was ridiculous but true: butts.
His remark made want to make this picture, I think. It is therefore doubly an affirmation of life, because it is springtime - and because it is, in a way, the reverse of what the horror was.
