The Little Girl & the Barbie Doll // La petite fille et la poupée Barbie © Chant Wagner 2018
Are we there yet? In a post-racial society?
The sight of this little girl holding a blond Barbie doll, her reverse type, does not disturb her, nor anyone around her.
Numbed by the norm?...
But we are taught to pay attention to such details.
As long as options of diverse colors and shapes are available and she made the decision to pick this doll on a certain day and according to her mood, then it's okay in many's book.
But somehow, you feel that the Barbie doll is second-hand, or more mainstreamly available. It was the easy option, you tend to guess.
Did she think twice about it? Yes, she did, it looks like
You then notice something else: the little girl left her mark on the Barbie's hairdo; the blond hair has been fashioned to look like African hair, except it's like a negative print, colorwise.
So, yes, after all and in the end, it's advisable to take inspiration from nature in all of its diversity.
Little girls do so
And she left the eyes blue because she just likes the color, all sorts of different colors
It is a difference not inherited, but cherished
