Guerlain have introduced new unisex fragrance Patchouli Ardent in the collection Les Absolus d'Orient, which is dedicated to the quest of both select raw materials and the pursuit of the house's historical interest in the Orient...
In-house perfumer Thierry Wasser decided to take a contrarian approach to the interpretation of patchouli scent, usually depicted as being dark and mysterious, making it reportedly be perceived as "luminous" and "vibrant" this time.
The eau de parfum is said to be a leathery, musky, woody perfume in which patchouli is associated with rose - a rather classical combination, which is not to say that it can't be made to smell winning.
The composition has top notes of fig fruit, pink peppercorn, and pepper. The heart showcases patchouli, cedarwood, a Turkish rose absolute. The base offers a leather accord, together with musks and Ambrofix, the latter designating an amber note created from sugar cane, thanks to Givaudan technology.
In keeping with the Guerlain tradition of Shalimar and its storytelling of love and architectural grandeur, one can notice that Patchouli Ardent, or Smoldering Patchouli, is represented in the magnificent setting of a blue-tiled Persian mosque.
