Penhaligon's are playing both with the mystique of London cabs and fragrance by associating the two worlds in a creative ad campaign designed by the advertising agency DHM London which started this summer and will last for a year. The cabs go further than sporting Penhaligon's stickers and want to create a special experience while crossing the city. They include a knowledgeable driver ready to answer questions about the fragrances created by the house and the brand...

French designer Philippe Starck, who has designed an impressive list of quotidian objects ranging from Euro coins to toothbrushes as well as turned to home decoration (Hôtel Costes, Les Bains Douches) and architecture (Yoo Tel Aviv twin towers and brewery Asahi called La Flamme in Asakusa) just to name a few creations, has created his first perfume bottle for Nina Ricci L'Air du Temps. The design will probably get prizes for its high level of originality which is even more apparent when held upright ready to spray. It manages to renew our vision of a classic perfume which date of birth is 1948, born just a year before Starck who incidentally is a long-time wearer of the women's fragrance. His wife Jasmine tells him it is the one which smells best on his skin...

London-based Miller Harris are bouncing with joy today as the news have spread in national newspapers that four of their scented candles were selected by wife of British Prime Minister Samantha Cameron to offer to First Lady Michelle Obama. Samantha Cameron is well-known in the UK for her sense of style and her taste developed formerly also as an artistic director for luxury stationary brand Smythson. It's further support for Miller Harris that she really does know a thing or two about style and follows her own advice instead of asking a shopping assistant to do the selection (please note that she could have also selected the Vogue pick, Figue Amère.) So what were the Four Chosen Ones, in case you would like to emulate both 10 Downing Street and the White House to perfume your home?...

©Mike Marsland, cropped Jennifer Aniston, when asked during the launch of her debut scent at
Harrods by Reuters why it is that she changed the name of her fragrance at the
eleventh hour (not for the first time though), answered that this is due to the presence of another scent on the market [ Lola by Marc Jacobs], which was launched last year in August 2009 in the US and September 2009 internationally. In March 2010 discussions about the name of her scent started being publicized with "Aniston" appearing as a candidate favored by the actress...

In the latest twist concerning Jennifer Aniston's perfume, we learn via Harrods newsletter this time that it's now been titled on their website " The Debut Fragrance." If they had put back "Lolavie" after telling us it was not called that (anymore), we would have felt like this was a really mad circus. As it is, it just reveals an inordinately high level of hesitation and upheaval over the name of the debut fragrance by Jennifer Aniston. The debate went public instead of being classically discussed behind closed corporate doors, probably in part to build publicity and get feedback. The result, the appearance of flip-flopping until the last minute, may be the slight downside to this approach which even in the Internet age looks extraordinarily "of the minute"...

In interesting - no, wait, make that earth-shattering fragrance-onomastics news, we learn
through the press office of Harrods of London that the new perfume by
Jennifer Aniston to launch tomorrow at the department store is not called Lolavie anymore
but simply Jennifer Aniston. If you care to remember, there had been prolonged media coverage of the name of the fragrance which started by being floated as maybe going to be "Aniston" then went on to be Lola Vie, then Lolavie (we're simplifying.) Was this all a big Jen joke on us? Fortunately, because suddenly I am feeling a bit like "did this really happen or did I just dream it?" there is still a visual of the fragrance on the blog with the name "Lovavie" emblazoned across it...

Je Reviens by Worth (I Will Be Back), issued originally in 1932, will be relaunched at the end of this summer in London to coincide with the revival and the return of the house of Worth to Haute Couture. The website of Worth Paris, which has changed its design since the last time I checked giving more prominence to fashion, mentions the skyscraper bottle of the Art Deco period as the container for the relaunch, but this bottle was already re-introduced previously under the name Je Reviens Couture in the fall of 2004...

Thanks to a tip from fellow blogger Lucian James of Agendainc.com, who picked up on our tone of cautious skepticism in our last post about the denial of a Lady Gaga perfume - which we said might or might not be a project for real - we got news through them that Lady Gaga has in fact trademarked the name " Bad Romance" in the category " Fragrances, perfumery, makeup, personal care products including lotions, soaps and bath products..."

©DevaneyAfter the news or rather rumor apparently started circulating on the net that Lady Gaga was going to launch her own fragrance with Coty, Women's Wear Daily asked Steve Mormoris senior vice president of global marketing for the corporation for a confirmation. Mormoris's answer is "I know nothing of this project,"which could imply that even if you are a Coty insider, you're not omniscient and there might be a secret cell developing the scent unbeknownst to Mormoris. But then to clarify further and lift all ambiguities he added " It is a totally false rumor."...

Apparently it's not a spoof this time. The glaringly missing celebrity fragrance when you looked at the series of celebs launches was Lady Gaga's. Coty noticed the void too and reportedly are working with the mega visual pop singer to release her debut signature scent. There are going to be oodles of material to pick from to build the universe around this new perfume!...

Betsey with daughter Lulu Johnson, photo © J McCarthyFashion designer Betsey Johnson will introduce a new perfume next month, or rather re-introduce the juice which is said to be a revival composition of her original fragrance from 1982. Names were undisclosed both for the "original" and the new one which has been redone by Firmenich staying as much as possible true to said original but admitting at the same time that it underwent a process described as a "modern interpretation,"...
