Scented German Calendars {Fragrant Shopping}

Duftkalendar.jpg
Apparently, the Germans love their calendars to be more than visually appealing, they also appreciate a little scratch-and-sniff action.

You can find a series of such scented calendars called Duftkalendar on the Germany site of Amazon, Amazon.de. They either revolve around a theme, Spices and Herbs or Fruits or are more generalist. Each page offers a picture of the ingredient or bouquet of the month as well as a rubbing spot for you to release the aromatic molecules...

Piper Heidsieck & Christian Louboutin Le Rituel Champagne {Fragrant Shopping}

piper-heidsieck-christian-louboutin-2.jpgMy jaw dropped when I saw this beauty. It is not out yet but will be from October 26, 2009 at Colette, even sooner in the US where the launch takes place on October 19.

Snaps out of contemplation to let you know that this special edition is called Piper Heidsieck & Christian Louboutin Le Rituel Champagne in reference to the romantic habit of drinking champagne from a woman's slipper, the gentlemanly thing to do, reportedly in the 1880s. Piper Heidsieck was established in the city of Reims in France in 1785.

After Viktor & Rolf Rosé Sauvage, Christian Louboutin, a living myth of a shoemaker that has made good use of a fashion twist already in use at the court of Louis XIV, has partnered with champagne maker Piper Heidsieck to offer the glass and crystal fantasy of a Louboutin shoe ready to be brought to your, grateful, lips.

Lulabie Aromatherapy Teddy Bear is Good for Babies & Parents {Fragrant Shopping} {Fragrance News}

lulabie-bear-aromatherapy2.jpgLulabie have launched a line of scented teddy bears that have been studied to release the aromatherapeuthic benefits needed to help babies, toddlers and consequently parents go to sleep. Being sympathetic to one of the hardest experiences of early parenthood, sleep deprivation (yes, nobody told us about that ordeal in advance -- now you know, if you didn't already know) is certainly going to garner them some good will.

Lulabie is a brand owned by The Scent a Brand group, a company that specializes in scenting all sorts of surfaces and objects from key chains and trays to toothbrush holders, jewelry and shoehorns, with the promise that it will last up to a year. The teddy bears are scented with a Sleep-Well blend of "...lavender oil, orange, thyme and cardamom, a blend that aims to release fatigue, calm and relax the child,"...

Samsung-Cacharel-Amor.jpg
Samsung is continuing to play the olfactory card and this time hopes to attract female customers that are attuned to the perfume and beauty worlds as well as brands. After their anonymous aromatherapeutic lavender-scented cellphone, the Korean brand now just launched in France a new cellphone co-branded with Cacharel, the E250, which comes together with a beauty coffret containing a Sensual Milk for the body and a bottle of Amor Amor Eau de Toilette. The design of the cellphone has been made to look the part, with a feminine, flowery decor,

"Samsung et Cacharel se sont associés pour concocter un mobile empreint de sensualité et de féminité. Ce E250 est en effet aussi élégant à l'extérieur qu'à l'intérieur (fonds d'écrans spécifiques). Mieux, ce mobile est fourni avec un coffret de beauté Cacharel. N'attendez pas la Saint Valentin pour faire plaisir à votre chère et tendre."...

Outfit Yourselves with Perfume Necklaces! {Fragrant Shopping}

Perfume-Necklace-Black-Transparent.jpg
I have to admit that I have a closet perfume-fetish that I paradoxically, do not often indulge in, but that I know is there. A perfume bottle on a great advert, perfume-printed scarves, perfume jewelry usually catch my attention and my already half-won admiring gaze. But I also know that to really indulge in this pleasure one needs to be selective otherwise, it all gets diluted, repetitive and might even become an alarming alternate version to the more commonly occurring crazy cat-lady syndrome, Saint Marie-Madeleine patron-saint of perfumes forbid!...

Perfume Roll-On & Pen Combo {Bargain Fragrant Shopping} {Shopping Tip}

Perfume-Roll-On-Pen.jpg
Oooh, I happened on these pens that do double-duty as perfume roll-ons. Don't you love it when people recognize the need to put perfume everywhere and consider fragrance a first-necessity item?

It might be a great solution for those perfumes that you worship but that tend to be fleeting on your skin.

I'll test them when I receive them hoping the scent does not escape the confines of the perfume tank or get transformed into an involuntary home-fragrance device...

Tees That Go with Upcoming Sean Combs I Am King Fragrance! {Fragrant Shopping}

I-Am-King-Tee.jpgI just realized that the word was out already and that prior to perfuming yourselves with the upcoming I Am King by Sean Combs/Sean John, you can start wearing the tees that go with the scent!

Two models are available under one of Sean John's apparel labels and there is no doubting the consistency of Sean John/Combs's message. On one tee-shirt you can proclaim simply, "I Am King", on the other, a slightly more confusing motto: "Many Crowns, 1 King". At any rate, you get the meaning, it's all about self-affirmation.

The tees will probably smell great sprayed on with the new perfume and will make it last longer, think about it!

Now at Dillard's for $22,50 and $25,50, respectively.

Aquarelle Ephemereal Flower Jewelry {Fragrant Shopping}

Bracelet-Mistinguette2.jpg
Mistinguette bracelet with an Hortensia and pink pepper bouquet

Aquarelle is a chain of florist shops in France which succeeds in maintaining an artisan flair. In fact, I just discovered they were a chain as I always thought of them as my neighborhood independent florist. The big wide-open store rue de Buci is charming with its heavy wooden beams and their flower compositions which overflow onto stands on the sidewalk immediately catch your eye with their creative details. Actress Jane Birkin is a fan and can be sighted there regularly....

Interview with Katherine Ashenburg: Do You Prefer to Scrape, Change Shirts or Soap? {Fragrant Reading} {Holiday Shopping Ideas - $20 or Less} {Notebook: Fresh & Clean}

The Dirt on Clean.jpg

There is a fascinating interview with author Katherine Ashenburg on the history and practices of cleanliness in Salon. Judging by the exchange she seems to retain the theses of classic works of previous researchers on these questions such as Alain Corbin, Georges Vigarello, or Françoise de Bonneville but she also introduces comparative American material for example on the turning point that the Civil War was in the United-States for the discovery of the advantages of cleanliness and its decidedly democratic flavor. She also brings her own personal reflections which are very interesting. The interview and excerpt form her book were so compelling, we immediately went to order a copy of it........
