Makeup artist Scott Barnes explained why he decided to write a book on makeup (not just one actually, but two.) About Face: Amazing Transformations Using the Secrets of The Top Celebrity Makeup Artist (no need to name names obviously) was introduced on January 1, 2010 and the second installment also entitled About Face but sub-titled differently "Celebrity Makeup Techniques" will be issued on March 1, 2010.

Actually, it's not just a makeup book. As it turns out it's a wellness book...

New Hope for Hair Loss Comes from China & Natural Ingredients {Beauty News}

Cosmetics Design reports today that a new anti hair-loss shampoo formulation was launched by company Fenchem based on traditional natural Chinese ingredients.

"Vitamin C, amino acids, essential oils and other ingredients have been included in the offering that Fenchem maintains can improve blood circulation and therefore help fight hair loss, as well as activating hair follicles, and removing grease."...

I think women subconsciously know that red that is a sexual enhancer. Even at the most informal level, we will say that a red dress or lipstick is "provocative."

Here is an article explaining why red is on your side when you are looking for a mate, literally speaking, and why you ought to modulate your reds if you want to be left alone,

"A new study by two University of Rochester psychologists adds color - literally and figuratively - to the age-old question of what attracts men to women. Through five experiments, Andrew Elliot and Daniela Niesta demonstrate that the color red makes men feel more amorous toward women. Most surprisingly, men are unaware of the role the color plays in their attraction."

It seems that a new frontier of public feminine beauty talk has been discovered: the pubis. While reading a report yesterday on actress Jennifer Love Hewitt who was encouraged by George Lopez to broadcast on TV her favorite pubic routine - the Swarovski pavé of crystals - and thinking something like, bah, a quirk, I've had to reconsider my take on this after opening my Elle France this morning. There is a whole article on pubic hair but what is more unusual is that the advice is illustrated by a series of pictures of models unveiling their vajayjays as Hewitt likes to say. Okay, so you have the variations, the "triangle", the "flaming bush", you know, it's like clouds in the sky almost, you can let your imagination run a bit. Men give their opinions...

Two older articles remind us that beauty products can be hazardous for your health when sourced from outside of a regulated environment. Both products were sold in so-called ethnic stores and could be and are still available on the internet for one of them (OSAS is).

One, Zero-Mark Natural Fairness Cream (Pitch it right now!) is a whitening cream, a real curse in some communities where women in particular experience pressure to whiten their skins sometimes at the risk of dying from it. This product has been found to contain 26mg/kg of lead! It's déjà vu all over again: remember blanc de céruse in 17th, 18th century Europe?

"Tests have indicated "Zero-Mark Natural Fairness Beauty Cream" contains lead, a chemical ingredient prohibited in cosmetics and is known to have toxic properties which in severe cases can lead to brain and nervous system damage."....

Limited Edition Crazy Horse Lipstick for Sephora (2009): The Red Lipstick Series

I am going to explore with you a library of red lipsticks in the coming weeks. I already have a bunch I have been wanting to feature, am looking for some collectibles and all the while keeping an eye on new launches.

Like perfumes, lipsticks, and red lipsticks even more so than others, have stories. The pigment red is a highly desirable color for its richness and vitality -- it is the color of blood, amorous flush, and passion. It is so desirable that despite the fact that red paint for the lips have existed for centuries, they still can be the objects of an endless quest for the right shade. To drive the point further, consider the French who call all lipsticks made in all sorts of colors "rouge à lèvres" or "red for the lips" which in English also gave "lip rouge". Red is really the alpha and omega of lip colors.
