OPI is preparing to launch a new collection of glittery nail polishes to coincide with the release of the movie Burlesque by director Steve Antin featuring Chistina Aguilera, Alan Cumming, Stanley Tucci, Cher, among others. As a beauty and perfume blogger I can add this tidbit: Christina Aguilera, Alan Cumming and Cher all have had or still have fragrances in their names. Aguilera is the champion in the category with XPose; Christina Aguilera; Inspire; Christina Aguilera By Night. The range is likewise entitled Burlesque and will comprise 12 different colors. Some of the as-usual playful names are Bring on the Bling, Extra-Va-Vaganza (this makes me think of the newly coined beauty term " vajazzling") and Rising Star...

This is a famous picture of French poet Arthur Rimbaud (1854-1891) by Carjat. The poet was interpreted by Leonardo di Caprio in the movie Total Eclipse. After Rimbaud decided to stop writing poetry at age 20, he ended up in Africa in 1880. A later picture of him was found recently which shows a different man. Rimbaud's face is so iconic - it's even found on plates and chairs in France - that it's interesting to see his older face. It's like hearing that James Dean didn't die but was later found in a desert island... and photographed...

I was watching a video for the song " Sway" sung by Julie London on You Tube when I came across this picture which is part of the photo montage. And as soon as I saw it, it gave me a yearning to wear lipstick! Not that you will necessarily do it immediately, but it's inspirational, to me at least. When I think a little more about it, I think that what really showcases her painted lips in this picture is her complexion. It conveys the idea that applying a sultry-siren lipstick can still go together with a fresh, innocent and natural look...

You can join Vogue at Selfridges in London on April 22, 2010 for the introduction of the new Tom Ford Beauty range called Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Color Collection. As you may have heard, designer (and now movie director) Tom Ford is introducing a range of lipsticks on his way to offering a fashion range for women later on. This lipstick library is an off-shoot of the Private Blend collection of fragrances ( Overview) The lipsticks were developed in 12 staple colors described as being creamy, easy-to-apply, bold and fashion-conscious. Ingredients include: soja seed extract, Brazilian murumuru butter and chamomilla flower oil. Ford said, "This is my take on 12 classic lip colors," Ford told WWD. "I took the
most universally flattering colors that a woman can wear, and then I
reimagined them in a modern and authoritative way. These are signature
lip colors for the makeup connoisseur."
The collection is debuting this month in Europe and will reach the United States in June 2010. Meanwhile here is what London denizens can do...

Exciting news for men who take their facial hair seriously, Beard Team USA is launching the first ever National Beard and Moustache Championships this June 2010. There are $5000 in prizes. The competition will be hosted by the current world champion, Jack Passion (pictured above.) Pardon me for drooling down memory lane, but my first ever published article was a beauty and grooming story with an anthropological angle in my school newspaper when I was 12-13 years old and guess what, it was about Men's Beards in History (in French.)...

Infallible / Never Fail by L'Oréal is the signature Target Red which first came out in 2007 inspired by the red bull's eye logo that greets customers looking for a bargain with a dash of hip at Target stores. In August 2008, they added the Lip Colour Compact. For these two reasons, one dealing with the culture of (red) color and the other with a vanity implement, I had to review the Target Red Lip Compact. Except that in reality, I just noticed the frank red and then when I opened the package - not even then -, when I read a press release, I discovered there is supposed to be a built-in mirror, "Featuring a patented, transfer-proof formula that offers uncompromised
comfort and beautiful, luminous color hour after hour. With a richly
pigmented basecoat with superior elasticity and an ultra-glossy topcoat
with moisturizing Marine Collagen and Vitamin E, Infallible redefines
longwear lip color. Packaged in a revolutionary lip color compact with
a built-in mirror and precision applicator, color goes on - and stays
on - beautifully." (cf. pressroom.target.com)...

©Lancôme This is for me one of the new beauty products to watch and test this spring 2010, the upcoming Mascara Hypnôse Precious Cells by Lancôme. I admit to having been excited like everyone else by the research in mascara brushes that we have seen in the past couple of years and then to feeling a bit dazed after a while. At any rate it's hard to follow the output since all the mascara designers have started to dream and draw while they sleep it seems, otherwise how could there be so many new brushes out there!...

Marion Cotillard with a new crimped updo, which might do the same trick as the accessory advertised in the faux commercial. After the Césars ceremony in France, in February 2010. © Dominique C.Actress Marion Cotillard plays in a faux English-language commercial with an authentic educational aim to help fight against sexual harassment in the workplace. The funny ad reveals the best-kept secret of French women to foster greater respect towards women in a male-dominated environment. Only, the best-kept secret sounds like a beauty product made in Hollywood and born out of the mind of a feverish entrepreneur, with a real vision though...

A new, very special red color coming out for the lips this spring 2010 is the 100 year Anniversary Limited Edition lisptick by Elizabeth Arden called Red Door Red. It is inspired for its color by the iconic Arden red door of the brand's flagship store in New York City which is also their logo and for its gold tone packaging by 1940s glamor. 100% of the proceeds from the sales will go to charity organization Look Good...Feel Better, which helps boost the morale of cancer patients by making them participate in the rituals of beauty...

I wrote last time about how the pubis, which some confuse with the vagina curiously, has become the new grooming terrain for the thumb up and the thumb down on Swarovski crystals being applied "down there." Historically, both beauty professionals and fiends have done their best to delineate new body parts to focus on with special, refined treatments. Now tattoos on the derriere would be considered a sedate option so the new buzz-worthy beauty frontier to be pushed has been the pubis. And vajazzling. The term was apparently coined by actress Jennifer Love Hewitt. In a valiant effort to put images on words, New York City based blogger Bryce Gruber of The Luxury Spot was contacted to go on a vajazzling mission. She went, was filmed and photographed and offers us the first pictures of the treatment. She said, "I'm here to cover up my C
section scar. I'm here to give the women of America options."...

Illamasqua have unveiled their new collection of nail polish colors for Spring-Summer 2010 and they are beautifully faded and dusty. They debuted today February 20th, 2010 in the UK, exclusively at Selfridges, after having taken their virgin trips on the fashion runways. The four new shades are called Mint Green, Lemon Yellow, Powder Blue and Lilac. I especially love the Powder Blue color. They look like Easter-egg colors seen through a veil of gray chiffon. Each nail polish is priced at £13 or about US $20 at current exchange rate. Via Selfridges
The new collection by Tracy Reese for Sally Hansen has yielded beautiful results. The line is a gorgeous palette of neutrals, nudes and shades of café au lait, lattes, dark chocolate. The whole gamut of the experience of drinking at a café in Paris except it looks super chic on nails. I really love the subtlety of the colors here. Methinks the palette needs to stay together on each hand! The range includes Evening Fog, Fedora, Wet Clay, Touch of Mink and Bitter Sweet. "For the ninth season in a row, Sally Hansen has joined forces with
fashion icon Tracy Reese to develop the season's essential accessory:
stark nail lacquers inspired by Reese's fall collection."...

This is one of the last calls to buy the latest Pout-a-Porter by Lancôme, Chris and Tell, a peachy coral lipstick that has been selling like hot cakes since its launch in February 2010. See previous article on when it appeared on the runway. It's also an opportunity for you to have your own lippie signed by the designer even if you've already purchased one and meet the other man behind the twist-up tube, makeup artist Daniel Martin. "Chris is doing
a personal appearance at the Saks Fifth Avenue Lancôme counter in Manhattan
tomorrow. He'll be signing lipsticks and sharing the inspiration for his Spring
2010 collection. Saks is the official retailer for Chris & Tell and this is
one of the only counters that has any lipsticks left (and only because a
special batch was reserved for Chris's P.A.!)."...
