The 5th sense in the News: Do Monkeys Use Perfume?

A report of a study conducted on wild spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi) offers a fascinating insight into possibly the use of perfume amongst primates. These animals regularly use strongly scented crushed leaves to anoint themselves under the armpits and over the breastbone independently of any medical conditions or weather conditions. The use of perfume seems to be related to the signaling of social status and sexual attractiveness....

Well, it seems that we are wired to use perfume then -- remind me the name of that person who said that perfumes were frivolous?

Rosa Thea by Borsari 1870 {Perfume Short - Express Perfume Review}

Recently a reader from Greece contacted me to ask for some assistance in finding information about Borsari, a venerable perfume house based in Parma, Italy and in particular about one of its perfumes, Rosa Thea. This person was looking for a full bottle of it, a much more difficult task it seems than finding a miniature version of it. Seeing such enthusiasm for a perfume is always contagious and it made me want to seek out the fragrance and see by myself what all the fuss was about.....

Night Scented Jasmine by Floris {New Perfume}

The latest fragrance by Floris, Night Scented Jasmine, is described as "...an inspired aroma, evocative of balmy Mediterranean evening walks through air rich with the sweet heady notes of Jasmine".

The perfume has "...top notes of Violet, Citrus, Neroli and Mandarin, for a lucid and fresh allure. Light citrus notes fade to fragrant floral aromas of Jasmine, Lily, Rose, Ylang Ylang, Iris, Mimosa, Gardenia and Narcissus. Midnight Fantasy by Britney Spears {Fragrance News}

Britney Spears will launch a new fragrance in January 2007 called Midnight Fantasy. The bottle will be the same as the one designed for Fantasy except that its color will be in a midnight blue hue. The perfume was created by Caroline Sabas of Givaudan.

The scent is described as a fruity floral concoction and includes notes of "...black cherries, plum, orchid and freesia with base notes of musk and amber.

Midnight Fantasy line comprises three EdP skus, priced from $35 for 30ml to $55 for 100ml. Advertising and gift-with-purchase promotions will accompany the launch".
