Fragrance of the Moment: De Profundis by Serge Lutens {Scented Thoughts}

Cimetière_Montmartre.jpg

The heat was sweltering today in Paris. The taxi driver told me it was 40 degrees Fahrenheit and that the knowledgeable ones had said that it would be the hottest day of the year. Think hair blow dryer attack as you would cross a street. It made me think of one of my worst experiences of murderous heat in North-West China. Or think fear of a sunstroke although you're sitting under the roof of a car with a hat. Maybe the hat was to blame.

I was on my way to a funeral and thought that we might well all fall on the ground like flies, as the French say, in the oppressive heat especially being dressed in heat-suscking black garb for the occasion. Fortunately, I had forgotten there are welcoming shady trees in cemeteries and so the air got gentler under their sway...

L'Origan by Coty for Thanksgiving Day {Fragrance of the Moment} - A Poem-Review About L'Origan

L'Origan Coty Ad 1950.jpg
L'Origan ad by Coty, 1950

The smell of L’Origan is yellow, meltingly warm, chewy and delicious, strong and soft.

It smells of the color of corn, sunflowers, golden rooms and peaches.

It is the long-lost sunny side of L’Heure Bleue that rolled away like an Aztec wheel on the Paris cobblestones, or its morning side looking ahead to the rest of the time to be......

Fragrance of the Moment: Gucci edp by Gucci

Dried-Sunflowers-Print-C10083265.jpeg

I am still wearing Gucci edp and do not tire of its beauty. I keep smelling different aspects of it all along the day. It goes like this: "Hmmm, what's that scrumptious smell?" sniffs wrist "Oh, Gucci edp!" Two hours later I am caught off guard by a beautiful soft aroma lingering on about me. I instinctively look sideways toward the side table near the armchair where I am working to try to see if any flower has been left behind there...

Fragrance of the Moment: Thé Pour Un Eté by L'Artisan

thépourunété2.jpg

I am sampling Thé Pour Un Eté by L'Artisan. This is an exquisite floral, fresh, and sensual tea scent. It is also a wonderful antidote for the heat. It smells very, very close to fresh jasmine tea but with an added layer of floralcy. To my nose, it actually smells equal parts tea, citrus, and sweet jasmine. There is a lovely hint of mint too. Staying power is excellent; I could still smell it in the morning after having applied it the night before. The citrus notes stay on which is rare and a rather sophisticated trick. I need to get a bottle of this little bijou.

Fragrance of the Moment: Samsara edt by Guerlain

samsara2.jpg

I have spritzed on some Guerlain Samsara in eau de toilette as I find the sandalwood in it encourages mental focus. I love the edt concentration, it is subtler than the edp. Right now I am wondering why I even bother to wear any other summer scents as Samsara is top-notch. The scent is sensual but not so much as to take your mind off productive activity. I was recently given a mini of the pure parfum concentration and will try it next time.
