Laura Tonatto Notte a Taif (2010) {New Perfume} E Duse is Back & New e-Commerce {Fragrance News}

laura-tonatto-notte-a-taif.jpg
It is with pleasure that I am able to report that independent Italian perfumer Laura Tonatto has now a new website which functions as an international e-commerce. It was until recently difficult to come by her fragrances unless you were in Rome or Turin.

e-duse-tonatto.jpgTo make the news even more delightful, I see that the lovely violet composition that is E Duse, a perfume which is a homage paid to the great actress Eleonora Duse (1858-1924) is back in her catalog.

One of Tonatto's specializations which is conducted through her workshop Naso e Parnaso is historical interpretative work in compositions inspired by famous historical figures or even works of art. In 2005, for example, she created a perfume based on the painting The Lute Player by Caravaggio for the Hermitage Museum...

The Best Perfumes of 2000-2009 in Poetry by Cinquieme Sens {Fragrance News} {Perfume List}

cinquieme-sens.jpg
Cinquième Sens (Fifth Sense) a Paris- and New-York-based perfume school open to all (not just professionals) who wish to take classes to train their sense of smell and knowledge of fragrance history and marketing (check out their website for a list of workshops) took their quills to pen down two poems in French about the best or most representative landmark perfumes in their views for each year since 2000 in fragrances both in the masculine colognes and feminine perfumes categories.

I thought the lists were so neat, I asked if I could publish them on the blog and in return even got the suggestion that maybe I could translate them into English? Absolutely!

Pears' Soap New Smell Put on Trial on Facebook {Fragrance News}

pears-ad-1900.jpg
Long-time consumers of Pears' Soap the first transparent glycerin soap created by Andrew Pears in 1789 - 221 years ago - had been noticing lately that its scent seemed to have changed and apparently not for the better (I have an unused Pears soap but bought a year prior to the reported change.) Complaints range from its smell giving off strong notes of tea tree oil, frankincense and just being downright "horrible." Being what it is, a modest yet serious institution of British and international hygiene, consumers who have been using it for 40 - 50 years and can recall their ancestors using it before them became irate. A Facebook group was formed called 'Bring Back The Original Pears Soap.' An eloquent passage is provided by Lyn Westerman,...

EOS for Him & Her (2009): Beer-Based Carbon-Neutral Fragrance Smells of the Future {New Perfumes} {Fragrance News}

EOS_Blue-Marble.jpg
Seattle-based company Blue Marble Energy defines its mission as,

"...utilizing hybridized bacterial consortia to produce specialty biochemicals and renewable biogas. Our mission is to displace oil with fully renewable, carbon neutral alternatives."

To prove the point, they teamed with a local artisan perfumery called Sweet Anthem to create a duo of fragrances, EOS for Her and Him, that uses brewery waste to replace petroleum. "The EOS line features a special selection of Blue Marble Energy's bioester fragrances as the top note, carefully blended with Sweet Anthem's custom heart notes and low notes."

"At Seattle's Blue Marble Energy, chemists are cooking up a perfume made from the waste products of a local organic brewery, including rancid beer grains, green algae and a "sludge" consisting of 50,000 different kinds of bacteria.

The grains replace petroleum in the production process making the perfume, called Eos, completely carbon neutral."...
