Seattle-based company Blue Marble Energy defines its mission as, "...utilizing hybridized
bacterial consortia to produce specialty biochemicals and renewable
biogas. Our mission is to displace oil with fully renewable, carbon
neutral alternatives."
To prove the point, they teamed with a local artisan perfumery called Sweet Anthem to create a duo of fragrances, EOS for Her and Him, that uses brewery waste to replace petroleum. "The EOS line features a special selection of Blue Marble Energy's
bioester fragrances as the top note, carefully blended with Sweet
Anthem's custom heart notes and low notes." "At Seattle's Blue Marble Energy, chemists are cooking up a perfume
made from the waste products of a local organic brewery, including
rancid beer grains, green algae and a "sludge" consisting of 50,000
different kinds of bacteria.
The grains replace petroleum in the production process making the perfume, called Eos, completely carbon neutral."...

Yves Rocher, President-Founder of the Yves Rocher Group, the world 18th leading business company, died in Paris at the hospital Lariboisière on December 26th, 2009 from a sudden vascular brain accident. Yves Rocher was born on April 7th, 1930 in a village of Brittany in France called
La Gacilly in the Morbihan region to which he remained attached all of his life. A French
entrepreneur with a global reach extending to more than 30 countries but also a man of roots he had vowed early on to fight poverty in his own backyard. As quoted in the press release, "«One day La Gacilly will be famous and prosperous»; This is the oath Mr. Yves Rocher made in 1959, while Brittany was depopulating, hit by the rural exodus. 50 years late, La Gacilly has become an important job basin. Mayor of his native village from 1962 until 2008, Mr Yves Rocher has been considerably involved in the political and economic life of his region, which he loved so much."
Yves Rocher had retired in 1992 but decided to go back to the
presidency of the Group after his successor and son Didier died
accidentally in 1994. He is survived by his two other sons Daniel and
Jacques, Bris, his grandson and other members of his family. It is Bris Rocher, his 31-year-old grandson, son of Didier, who is now the president of the Group. The Yves
Rocher Group remains a family-owned business (controlled at 75‰)...

At the premiere of Did You Hear About The Morgans? Sarah Jessica Parker has been expressing her wish for a long time to create an authentically musky scent, the kind that she is partial to. Apparently, after having been forced to compromise on her previous fragrance launches, she might be able to get closer to her goal and to take some creative risks. Well, perhaps the word "risk" is a bit strong here as the actress insists that the scent of B.O. she has in mind remains popular with "everybody." You cannot help but get a paradoxical vision of the most commonly encountered olfactory experience, the scent of humanity, exuded by precisely, each and everyone, going through a cycle of creative renewal and ending up in a bottle signed SJP. Of course, it is to be understood as a stance against deodorized society. The most common odor might be that of soap now. The scent of B.O. might be another form of anti-perfume, the kind that gestures in the direction of its anihilation by body odor, to borrow from post-modernist jargon. But are we really expecting SJP to be gesturing in that direction?...

Among its current forty scent offerings, one can note the presence of a rare limited-edition of Creed Windsor, a fragrance which was custom-ordered by then King Edward VIII and which is available in limited supply. Marc Jacobs will introduce a new visual packaging interpretation of Daisy called Daisy Garland in February 2010. The color sky blue was elected " to encourage wearers to daydream about bright days and happy blue skies," while the perfume itself remains unchanged. The name of the special limited-edition suggests a festive, optimistic mood and is further illustrated by a real garland of daisies in shades of blue which comes as a GWP and can be used as a home fragrance device once sprayed upon. The opening of a new Creed boutique on Madison Avenue received the attention of Mayor Bloomberg who sent a letter of welcome to the perfume house on the occasion of its inauguration. My French translation is available after the jump/Ma traduction en français est disponible dans la deuxième partie de l'article. "Dear Friends:
It is a great pleasure to welcome all those attending the Grand Opening of the CREED boutique on Madison Avenue.
Family-owned and -operated businesses are the heart and soul of New York City. And while few can claim to be as time-honored or internationally renowed as CREED, we're proud to welcome Emmanuel and Thomas Saujet and this legendary company to midtown. This brand has been synonymous with quality since it began almost 250 years ago, and it has matched its success with a dedication to giving back to the community. This new store will not only create jobs and contribute to our economy, but it will also be a great place for CREED to shwocase their fine wares in one of the world's most celebrated shopping districts.
As the capital of global business, New York City is no stranger to the sweet smell of success--and with a tremendous and thriving market of residents and visitors to cater to, I'm sure this new store will only add to the aroma. On behalf of all New Yorkers, please accept my best wishes for an enjoyable opening and continued success.
Sincerely,
Michael R Bloomberg Mayor "...

The winter shopping season 2009 sees a new advertising and spokesperson for Dolce & Gabbana The One previously advertised with model Gisèle Bündchen who is an expectant mother. Scarlett Johansson was recently seen as the face of Dolce & Gabbana's new makeup line and of Rose The One, their first soliflore. She now appears bathed in the same champagne-rosé light as in the Rose adverts but wearing deep coral red lipstick on a golden brown background. The men's version of The One (see review) with Matthew McConaughey shows a similar background in the advert. It is used as a visual cue to help pair the duo.
According to Women's Wear Daily, Serge Lutens will open a store in La Mamounia in Marrakech where the founder's main residence is incidentally located. This is to respond to an interest in luxury goods emanating from the new Moroccan middle class, a category that reportedly did not exist 5 years ago. A slew of luxury brands are doing the same. The perfumery is slated to open by the end of the year.
Italian lifestyle and fashion brand Bottega Veneta just reached an agreement with Coty, Inc. They will launch a personal women's perfume in 2011 as their first foray into the fine fragrance world, to be followed by others. 2005 saw an earlier fragrance collaboration between them and L'Artisan Parfumeur for a collection of 4 candles wrapped in the trademark leather of the brand and scented to rhyme with the 4 seasons...
