Muguet by Guerlain, 2007 Edition {Fragrance News}

Each year since 1998, Guerlain releases a new edition of Muguet to celebrate the First of May. In France, people traditionally exchange lilies of the valley on that day when one can suddenly see buckets full of the delicate white bells patterning a city's streets.....

Norma Kamali Opens A Wellness Café Centering On Olive Oil {Scented Paths & Fragrant Addresses} {Fragrant Recipes}

Norma Kamali was brought up enjoying olive oil on a daily basis thanks to her Lebanese mother and Spanish father, but two years ago, her passion blossomed and she started developing an expertise in olive oil. She has now opened a café in New York city which offers a series of specialties based on olive oil and floral Mediterranean flavors. Here is what is on the menu:

"...olive oil ice cream, and a light olive oil and lavender short bread — garnished with lavender leaves. The Bryant Park Grill is supplying an aromatic rose meringue parfait, olive oil cupcakes with a hint of spice and lavender marshmallows that are as light as air....

Article by Luca Turin On A New Formulation Of Guerlain Mitsouko by Edouard Fléchier {Fragrance News}

We had said several times on TSS that Mitsouko by Guerlain had come to smell simply appalling compared to the original version (especially, but not only, in the edt version).

 

Luca Turin has announced in his regular column in NZZ Folio that Guerlain had been going back to the drawing board and that Mitsouko has now been reformulated by perfumer Edouard Fléchier (Davidoff, Poison, Acqua Di Gio, Une Rose....). He says that he personally might even prefer the new version to the classic one......

New Online Perfume Magazine: Sniffapalooza Magazine {Fragrance News}

Sniffapalooza is a well-known institution among perfume lovers. It is a periodic gathering of fragrance aficionados that meet to literally sniff until they drop and listen to talks from professionals from the industry. Now editor Raphaella Brescia has set up a magazine under the auspices of Sniffapalooza called Sniffapalooza Magazine.

Re-edition of Candide Effluve by Guerlain {Fragrance News}

Guerlain is going to re-issue a perfume called Candide Effluve (Pure Emanation*) in October of 2007. It was originally launched in 1922 or 1924 (dates differ).

* Historian Arthur Minton proposes to translate the name as "True Redolence".

The latest release by Fragonard, Billet Doux, is now available at Hampton Court. It is a limited edition and a re-issue of a 1950s fragrance from their catalogue. You can read our review of Billet Doux here. It retails for $65 for a 1.7 oz flacon.

John Galliano Will Launch Signature Fragrance {Fragrance News}

After creating a limited edition scented candle with Diptyque called Essence of John Galliano, the designer now prepares to introduce his own signature scent in the fall of 2008. Selective Beauty aggressively said that they aimed to capture Galliano's DNA in scent form. The perfume is projected to be high-quality and have a selective distribution range.

Olivier Cresp Is Awarded The Title of Maître Parfumeur at Firmenich {Fragrance News}

Perfumer Olivier Cresp has been awarded the title of "Maître Parfumeur" (Master Perfumer) by Firmenich. The title rewards not only creative qualities, but human ones as well. Firmenich justified its choice by saying that the decision was made with regard to his contribution "to the evolution of modern perfumery, his eminent qualities as a person and a creator as well as for his highly valued involvement with Firmenich.".....
