There is an interesting portrait of a young woman scientist called Katharina Breme, who specializes in analytical chemistry. She just received a scholarship destined to women in science,"Pour les femmes et la science", and her work focuses on analyzing why certain molecules have a stronger olfactory impact than others. The human nose remaining the best instrument of analysis of aromas, she uses it and trains herself to smell using for reference the work by Jean-Noël Jaubert, Le champ des odeurs..... The Société Française des Parfumeurs is organizing their annual competition, which rewards each year an emerging talent. This year the inspiration for the creation of an original perfume should be guided by a quote from Le Mas Théotime (1945) by Henri Bosco, « You push your hand in among the damp leaves, which when shaken shed hundreds of tiny clear droplets of water onto your fingers whilst the little plant’ perfume exhales and intermingles near the ground with the smell of the plants below and the stronger emanations of the earth”.

Dear Readers, It has been brought to my attention that the Index of New Perfumes 2006 & Index of New Perfumes 2007 were experiencing technical difficulties. It has now been fixed and we hope that you will find them useful to browse. The perfumes are listed there in alphabetical order either by perfume name of perfume brand. Right now in the box above that says "New Perfumes" you will find them alternatively listed in relative chronological order.
Best Scented Regards, -- Marie-Hélène (Photo from all posters)
Tsi-La Organics is a new brand of perfumes that will appeal to the green-minded perfume consumer and provide the opportunity of an interesting foray into natural perfumery for more eclectic perfumistas. The packaging is lovely and the pleasure of varying perfumes has been kept in mind as you can purchase the scents in at least one set of four. The brand stresses that they do not use any synthetic ingredients, just pure essence oils. Their two different sets of fragrances modulate traditional perfume carriers for people who prefer oil versus those who favor alcohol. In this manner they offer a series of four perfume oils and one of six "natural eau de parfum", which are alcohol-based. Part of the fragrances overlap the two collections, with Fleur Sauvage, Kesu, Ilang Ilang, and Kizes found in the coconut oil-based scents and Fiori d'Arancio, Ilang Ilang, Saqui, Kesu, Fleur Sauvage, and Kizes found in the alcohol-based ones. Both series are in Eau de Parfum concentration........

In the days leading to October 2007 which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, beauty and perfume brands are mobilizing to pitch in and contribute to the collective awareness and donation efforts. Floris of London, one of the two oldest perfumeries in existence in the world (with Santa Maria Novella), established 1730, is organizing a charity auction on eBay and 25% of the proceeds will be given to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation, "the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists". Floris is auctioning off their last batch of No. 89, the fragrance of choice worn both by James Bond 007 the fictional spy character and Ian Flemming the author and which is a scent reputed for its typical British gentlemanly charm. The eau de toilette, which was created in 1955, features notes of Citrus, Spicy, Bergamot, Orange, Geranium, Nutmeg Cologne, Orange Blossom, Floral, Herbal, Rose, Jasmine Woody, Musky, Mossy, Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Vetiver.......

In a video interview given to FashionMag.fr, Tom Ford reveals that he is working on four new perfumes that will be exclusive to his Dubai boutique and which " are more about that part of the world". Tom Ford for Men he characterizes as more of a " global fragrance that has to appeal to everyone", i.e., mainstream with the extra connotation that consumers are from all over the world. He says that it is classic and fresh in the top notes with a warm sensual base. Tom Ford Extrême, which is coming out in November of 2007, he explains is the reverse, very sensual with a little bit of freshness.
Dear Readers, We have compiled an Index of New Perfumes in 2006 and 2007 in alphabetical order for your browsing convenience. These lists are selective as the task of indexing every new release in detail would be both tedious and time-consuming. A new creation, a new twist, an interesting packaging, a novel or trendy concept, a historically significant perfume house latest output or update, a new perfume brand are all reasons to turn our attention towards a new launch. Average flankers will be therefore under-represented. For new limited editions offering the same juices, you can go to Fragrance News and Luxury Perfumes.......

Chanel has announced that they will postpone the launch of No.5 Eau Première (pics and details from previous announcement available here) until next year in 2008 due to a "technical fault." This is our first announcement for a new fragrance without a name! Yes, you may have noticed a certain minimalist trend regarding perfume names lately which make these dwindle in size seriously offering sometimes just two letters, "XX" or "XY" or even a single letter, "L", but an unnamed perfume, without even a number, is a first. But not for long. Bourbon French Parfums the old perfumery from New Orleans established in the 19th century is counting on you to provide them with a brand new original name for their new perfume. They are very old, 160 year old, and they need your help. The name, we suppose, has somehow to fit the spirit of the notes. Here's their letter to you, Hello all you Perfumaniacs!
We are introducing a new fragrance this fall. It's a beautiful blend of white tea with hints of lily of the valley, tuberose and a light touch of musk.......

This is a picture of Tom Brady in Rockmount Ranch Wear which can get us accustomed to the idea that Brady looks good in cowboy gear although he is most commonly associated with the New England Patriots. By the way, Rockmount shirts seem to be particularly sought after and are often used in the movie industry. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, for example, both wore Rockmount shirts in Brokeback Mountain (see their celebrity gallery). Back to Brady. We announced previously that Tom Brady is the new man fronting the Stetson colognes ads (included in the post is a behind-the-scenes pic from the photo shoot). Here is more information about the re-launch of Stetson Original this fall which is currently scheduled for November 2007. No official picture from the advertising campaign yet, but more details can be found in the press release,
"Who is today’s ultimate Stetson man? The expression of the great American outdoors, of freedom, of confidence and masculinity? TOM BRADY. His appeal goes beyond his sporting skills and success, beyond his New England Patriots team, beyond the Superbowl. He is rugged, down to earth, competitive, fair minded and honestly handsome. A man with his own style and his own special magnetism. Whose independence of spirit and assured authenticity are his trademark......
