Crystal-maker Lalique will launch a new fragrance for men called Lalique White, first next week, exclusively at Harrods in London, and then worldwide in September 2008. The US and Middle East will only discover it in 2009. The scent is described as a fresh hesperidic perfume and was composed by perfumer Christine Nagel who reportedly was interested in bringing out the fresh, cool facets of spices.....

After announcing last year that the Musée International de la Parfumerie (International Museum of Perfumery), located in the south of France in the historical center of perfumery that Grasse is, would reopen in early 2008, the inauguration was delayed but is now scheduled for October 18, 2008, according to Fashion Mag.fr On your right, an ad for the famous Papier d'Arménie from the 1890s, which is part of the Museum's collection, showing its purifying properties: it roots out evil angels and other miasma of that same order. The tag line is "Parfume, Assainit" (Perfumes, Cleanses)
(For a contemporary take on Papier d'Arménie, see Francis Kurkdjian's version.)
A radiant and very preggy Angelina Jolie with Brad Pitt at Cannes Festival 2008 © Wireimage According to Cosmetics International, Emma Watson is not meant to be in the future of Chanel to replace Keira Knightley as the spokesmodel for Coco Chanel, as the rumor had been spreading lately. Chanel is officially denying the "gossip".
One celebrity out, another celebrity in. Angelina Jolie on the other hand is reported to be in talks with Coty to become their next celebrity to develop a perfume. You have to love the way CI puts it, "Jolie, who models Shiseido cosmetics in Asia, would arguably be the biggest star yet to work with Coty, outshining even Jennifer Lopez and Sarah Jessica Parker."
It feels like watching stocks go up on Wall Street.
We thought that this advertising from Chanel this week in WWD regarding their trademark qualms was interesting enough to warrant a post. Especially since we ourselves used "Oscarized" recently and could be tempted to use "Chanel-like", if not already done;....

An article in the Herald.ie seems to allude to the upcoming new perfume by Serge Lutens. Serge Lutens creates three fragrances a year, two exports and 1 non-export, the latter being exclusive to the Salons Shiseido at the Palais Royal. In 2007, there were Rousse, Louve, and Sarrasins. If the schedule is the same, it should be a reference to a non-export scent. Please note how the journalist is at pains not to name the perfume throughout the article. "A very sexy Serge Lutens perfume came into my office the other day. It was a gorgeous scent, all spicy and incredibly complex. It seemed to change every time I took a sniff of the bottle and everyone smelt something different in it."

Déclaration, composed by perfumer Jean Claude Ellena, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a luxurious new casing made out of leather sewn with white stitches. It makes sense for perfume brands to celebrate such anniversaries because a perfume that lasts is bound to have some qualities and it also functions as publicity for collectors and new wearers.
Déclaration is one of Cartier's best-sellers and can easily be worn by women as well thanks to its unisex leaning. It is fresh, spicy, yet also warm. Ellena was inspired by the idea of translating Russian tea into a fragrance although to our nose, it smells more like Indian or Kashmiri cardamom chai......

Vintage-fragrance-lovers alert! A set of re-editions of vintage Worth fragrances was sighted; it includes the classic Dans La Nuit (1924), Vers Le Jour (1925), Sans Adieu (1929), Je Reviens (1932), and Vers Toi (1934). As you may or may not know, you can still find Dans La Nuit and Je Reviens, the latter also in the so-called "Couture" edition (blue ribbed art deco bottle) which is closest to what we remember Je Reviens smelling like in the 1980s, but the rest of them are discontinued......

Fashion couturier Yves Saint Laurent died at the age of 71 at his house in Paris on Sunday. He had been ill for many years and his health deteriorated in the last week. He was born in Oran, Algeria in 1936, in a family of pied-noir French settlers there. He would become an assistant to Christian Dior, later offering his own YSL fashion brand in 1962 with the help of Pierre Bergé before founding his own first ready-to-wear boutique called Rive Gauche in 1966. Just like he was a major influence on 20th century fashion and images of feminine beauty, he also left his mark on the universe of luxury perfumes. If he was not a perfumer himself, he was an exacting and demanding designer of fragrances, seeing to the smallest details for the creation of the Opium flacon or encouraging the breaking of puritanical codes in perfume advertising with Pour un Homme for which he himself posed naked in 1971 or M7 which featured a frontal view of a male nude model, Aïkido champion Samuel de Cubber.....

Estée Lauder is gearing towards their big launch this summer. Their new fragrance called Sensuous (see previous report) billed as the first of its kind, a "woody amber", puts the spotlight on woods no longer seen as supporting roles but main characters. A new "Melted Woods Nature Print" accord is part of the equation. For starters, a micro-website www.SensuousIs.com goes live today May 30th 2008. Visitors can discover more information about the four models incarnating different facets of femininity, the fragrance, as well as register in a sweepstakes for a chance to win a grand prize. "The sweepstakes will run through June 15 on “Sensuous Is.” We will award one lucky winner and a guest a trip to New York City to attend the Estée Lauder Sensuous launch event in July and meet our models. The grand prize also includes two $500 Bloomingdale’s gift certificates, a pampering spa experience, two Estée Lauder Sensuous gift baskets and luxury hotel accommodations."........
