In the latest installment of what looks like a typical takeover pattern designed by Bernard Arnault of LVMH, the largest luxury company in the world, company Hermès founded in 1837 is attempting to defend the penetration of LVMH capital into the family company as it learned that LVMH now owns 17,1% of its stakes. In the perfume business, Guerlain is a case in point of this type of gradual appropriation by the giant luxury goods company as a minority stake bought in the 1980s evolved into a full takeover in 1994 while the Guerlain family remained divided about this evolution. Observers have not failed to note a drive towards constructing Guerlain fragrances as high luxury items sometimes stratospherically priced as far as perfumes go, while encouraging commercial tastes although not all sense of quality and artistry has been lost. Hermès family members claim that the culture of their artisan-oriented company which centers more on the notion of "quality" than that of "luxury" would inevitably clash with and ultimately die at the hands of LVMH as the latter would put emphasis on profit-seeking...

Designer Diane von Furstenberg who came to fashion prominence in the 1970s for having created and successfully commercialized the wrap dress is going back to beauty this fall 2010, in particular with a new women's perfume. She had already launched a few before - with Tatiana probably being the best-remembered - but this time, Chantal Roos who has overseen the launches of the likes of Opium and L'Eau by Issey Miyaké, is at her sides. Skincare and makeup lines are to follow. DVF explained her motivation saying that she feels, " a commitment to empower women. Everything I do
in life has to do with how much I am inspired by women, how much I
respect women and how much I want every woman to feel strong, beautiful
and confident. When you have such an intimate relationship with women
there is no way that you can do it more than with the beauty business....

Advertising campaigns for CK One by Calvin Klein (1994) are some of the most look-conscious - you want to say rather than fashion-conscious because the models seem so under-dressed all the time. It's been said that the "new freshness" perfume helped define the feel of a generation and this is also due to the intertwining of olfactory cues with iconic billboards and packaging. The 2009 summer limited-edition of CK One revealed how sartorially conscious and youth-oriented the brand is. Bringing these affinities to their ultimate consequence, Calvin Klein Inc, together with Calvin Klein Fragrances, under the umbrella of Coty Prestige, and Warnaco Inc are joining forces to create an eponymous fashion label drawing inspiration from the Zeitgeist-y perfume CK One...

We were told that celebs' hairstylist Oribe made all the magic happen and she explains how to replicate the look sported by JLO...

The latest John Galliano women's fragrance launched yesterday on September 13, 2010 in Paris at historic restaurant Lapérouse facing the Seine in the 6th arrondissement. Outside the culinary hot spot which had been commandeered for the perfume launch, there was a huge open-sided bus to host a concert by The Pretty Reckless. Momsen performed with her band that evening singing Factory Girl, Make me wanna die, Since you're gone.
