Somehow after reporting on the faux new Galerie Noémie White Spirit relaunched rather than launched, as it turns out, in 2007, the Expeau 2 which debuted later that same year in November flew under our radar. So here is the belated news: Expeau 2 is indeed new and is described as a more voluptuous and gourmand version of Expeau, one of the three first fragrances of the brand introduced in 2002: Noir d'Encre, Expeau, and White Spirit......

While on the topic of Fahrenheit, here is the new travel packaging for Fahrenheit 32 made to resist shocks during traveling.....as well as outbursts of rage where you throw a perfume bottle at your lover. It looks very armored. A beautiful design that is also innovative.
The 40 ml "vaporisateur de voyage" is priced at 45, 44 €. Via Profession-Beauté
Dior is organizing an international contest in partnership with Leica to invite people to interpret the values and universes of fragrances Fahrenheit and Fahrenheit 32 in digital photographies following 4 distinct themes: 1) The Imaginary Voyage 2) Wide Open Spaces 3) The Power of Elements 4) The Infinite Man. The galleries of photos created will be evaluated both by a jury of specialists and submitted to the popular vote. The Judges' Special Award includes a Leica M8 camera and the 10 most popular galleries for Fahrenheit and Fahrenheit 32 will receive the Web Community Award which includes a full range of products.....

Can Can by Paris Hilton is now pursuing its career in London, UK. In pure celebrity-fragrance style, the celebrity is a key element of the composition (especially in this case). Paris works the crowd and touts her latest scent incarnation with a little help from her mother Kathy Hilton, her boyfriend Benji Madden and a hat. A celeb in a conversation-piece hat, this is probably what Can Can needs to smell its best, thanks to glamorous diverting thought-associations that make you forget it never meant to be a Guerlain......

In an interesting twist of events, Guerlain have announced that they have hired perfumer Thierry Wasser to be the exclusive in-house nose starting in June for the venerable institution which was established in 1828. This move is part of a trend of recapturing the identity and standing of a traditional perfume house by employing a nose who is more or less absolutely exclusive to it and whose creations in principle bear a common signature thereby reinforcing the image of the brand. Guerlain being owned by luxury group LVMH, an in-house nose is also probably felt to add to the representation of exclusivity conveyed by the brand name, like for example Demachy for Dior also owned by LVMH. It can be a very positive development from the point of view of perfume creation in the sense that it can encourage a perfumer to take more risks instead of having to compete immediately with other perfumers for a brief.
Guerlain since its founding has had members of five generations of the Guerlain family at its helm until its incorporation into the LVMH group in 1994. Jean-Paul Guerlain is the last nose from the Guerlain dynasty to preside over the destinies of the brand. Officially retired, he continues to officiate (see his latest Figue-Iris) and according to Cosmetics News will guide Wasser's steps as he moves into his new role while Sylvaine Delacourte will collaborate closely with him as artistic director......

Guerlain have released a sumptuous coffret of four fragrances inspired by the Four Seasons of Vivaldi and composed by Jean-Paul Guerlain. Entitled Les Quatre Saisons, it includes three perfumes from the house catalog as well as a new creation dedicated to celebrating the passage from summer to fall. The four seasons quartet as seen by Guerlain are: Muguet de Printemps, a lily-of-the-valley soliflore that is traditionally released yearly on the first of May, Quant Vient L'Eté (When Summer Comes), a luminous composition inspired by fields of yellow rape in the summer, Brume d'Automne (Fall Mist), the newest creation, and Winter Délice, once part of the Aqua Allegoria line and which centers on wintry impressions during the Holidays..........

Actress Naomi Watts in Los Angeles on May 5th 2008 Hot off the wire. In a move to link perfume and Hollywood glamor, it has been announced today that actress Naomi Watts will be the new icon for the fragrance Angel by Thierry Mugler starting this fall. As underlined by the press release, previous advertising campaigns for the first oriental gourmand that is Angel were graced in the past by beautiful feminine models but this time, "the new incarnation is more star than ever." Advertising campaign will break in national publications from October 2008. This is an interesting choice and goes well with the image of the perfume, we think, especially if you recall Mulholland Drive. Angel despite its international success still manages to keep a little bit of a strange flavor, a quirkiness in the midst of success and Naomi Watts offers this quality......

French architect Jean Nouvel is the 2008 laureate of the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize. We wanted to go back to this news as we read somewhere that the bottle he designed for the limited edition of L'Homme this year, a transparent glass test-tube on a black base, which seemed classically phallic for a perfume bottle for men albeit done in an avant-garde and frank style had this floating device in it to evoke nostalgic memories of going fishing when a child......

Fairmont Hotels and Resorts have announced that perfumer Lyn Harris of Miller Harris has designed an exclusive eau de cologne for the chain called Cologne 1888. "They’ve created a bespoke or unique custom-blended scent developed for one - and only one - customer.

It is called Le Parfum Rêvé (The Perfume of Your Dreams, lit. "The Dreamt Perfume").
