"Coty Prestige has unveiled Jennifer Lopez's seventh scent in 5 years. Called Glow After Dark, Charlotta Perlangeli stresses its difference with Glow, saying “The original Glow is angelic and personal but, by contrast, Glow After Dark is mischievous, charismatic and sexy.” ... We learn, for example, that Christophe Hornetz and Christophe Laudamiel had been working on recreating some of the olfactory visions of Süskind in their spare time, as hobbies, prior to moving on to the official project. The limited edition sets are now sold out on the French and German sites but they will launch in the US in the middle of next month and the coffrets will be shipped in December. According to Thierry Mugler Parfums, only 380 sets out of the 1500 existing ones were put aside for retail at the international level... I also wanted to add further information about the conception of the perfume other than the one I presented in my post yesterday. Christophe Laudamiel has explained that together with Christophe Hornetz they sought to compose a perfume that would offer perfect equilibrium between the different ingredients used. It was conceived of as a perfume in which you would not be able to distinguish the different elements going into the composition, but that you could wear with all other existing perfumes... Like the other fragrances in the collection of the New York perfume house, now part of a catalogue of 27 fragrances, it is inspired by the spirit of a New York City neighborhood or, sometimes also, as in the cases of Fire Island and Hamptons, by that of a nearby region much frequented and loved by New Yorkers. West Side is seen as embodying the musical beat of New York City and is described as "...an ultra-melodious eau de parfum that finds the scent equivalent for the sounds of music in its full-bodied, mellow composition, its undulating rhythms, its harmonies, its pitch—and yes, its notes. Whether they’re high or low, dark or light, sweet or sharp—notes are what music and fragrance are both about"... September 25, 2006Fragrance News: Coach to Launch Its First Fragrance
Coach, the top American leather goods brand will partner up with Estée Lauder to launch its first ever fragrance since the establishment of the house in 1941. According to Aedes, "The ancient Persian castle of Alamut inspired Lorenzo Villoresi to create a fragrance capturing the opulence of its fabled gardens. Luxurious like brocaded silk and warm like Middle Eastern nights, Alamut unfolds in layers of jasmine and osmanthus. Made intoxicating by the narcotic richness of narcissus and tuberose, the heart of the composition melds into the sensual base of woods and amber. An intriguing and striking fragrance, Alamut marries classical sumptuousness with edgy modern glamour"... We now have received more information regarding the notes: "Recreated from a historic Fragonard Perfume, BILLET DOUX, pays homage to the most beautiful flowers of the French Riviera: Sweet William carnation, peony and frangipani with accords of bergamot, lemon and mandarin all on a soft background of cedar, vanilla and musk". The perfume will be launched in October 2006 and will be available for purchase from the Fragonard website. Source: Press release
Fragrance News: In Black by Jesus Del PozoIn Black by Jesus Del Pozo will soon be available in France. The Spanish designer said they had wanted to take some time to prepare themselves prior to entering the refined and competitive French market. It is the designer's first scent. Top notes are black cherry, grapefruit, and rose. Heart notes are peach wine, Egyptian jasmine, violet, and black iris. Base notes are licorice wood, Madagascan vanilla, Indonesian patchouli, and Moroccan cedarwood. It will be exclusively sold at Marionnaud from October 1 2006. In the US it is available at etailers such as Perfumania. In Black was the recipient for the Best Selective Women's Packaging award at the Spanish FIFI awards. Romano Ricci of A&R Parfums announced the creation of a new French fragrance brand, Juliette Has A Gun, inspired by a modernized vision of the Shakespearean universe. It was recently presented for competition at the Beyond Beauty Cosmeeting. Ricci said he wanted to create a new line of fragrances for women who “pursue today, more than ever, an intense desire for freedom”. The brand plans to develop five fragrances which will be distributed internationally. The perfumes are created by Francis Kurkdjian. The two first fragrances slated to come out next year are Lady Vengeance and Miss Charming. The first one features notes of Italian rose absolute, vanilla and patchouli. The second one is composed with Moroccan rose, wild strawberry and lychee. They sound, to me, like the right fragrances to wear while re-watching Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of Romeo and Juliet! September 14, 2006Fragrance News: Pro Fumum, A New Line of Italian Perfumes at Luckyscent
The niche perfumery Luckyscent is now exclusively carrying the Italian Pro Fumum line of fragrances in the US. It includes eight unisex perfumes. Source: Cosmetic News September 8, 2006Fragrance News: More on Le Parfum (Das Parfum) Collector Edition by Thierry Mugler I called Thierry Mugler today and learned a few interesting things. First of all, Le Parfum will be a very limited edition of perfumes. The charming young woman with whom I conversed (thank you!) said that there would be 1300 copies of the perfume caskets issued in the world total of which only 100 to 150 caskets of perfumes would be available for retail. Le Parfum Collector Edition will be sold by subscription only through the Thierry Mugler website dedicated to Das Parfum (you can listen to the music of the film there) and the subscription will open on September 15 2006. The price for one casket is 550 Euros... September 7, 2006Fragrance News: 5 New Demeter Perfumes for This FallBriefly, Demeter will issue five brand new fragrances this fall between September and October 2006: Demeter Baby Powder, Fierry Curry, Red Head in Bed (hmmm, how is that suppose to smell? I hope it's not an allusion to anything I shouldn't be mentioning here), Ginger Cookie, and Barrier Reef. Now that picture is suggesting to me a variation on Demeter Baby Powder... how about Demeter Vintage Baby Powder in 1955 with Rusted Tin & Old Paper in 2007? (this is an indirect homage paid to Christopher Brosius) Oh, the possibilities! It's endless, simply endless my friends. A 1 oz. eau de toilette retails for $19. September 6, 2006Fragrance News: Prestige Edition for Parfum des Merveilles by HermèsHermès is releasing a very limited prestige edition of Parfum des Merveilles contained in a blue crystal bottle with a transparent stopper designed by Serge Mansau and hand-blown by craftsmen from the Saint-Louis crystal manufacture. Only 450 numbered copies will be issued to be sold in Hermès boutiques and select department stores from September 2006 for 1100 Euros. The stopper is prolonged by a crystal arrow that will allow the perfume to be directly applied onto the skin. The flacon will be sold together with an "estagnon" or aluminium bottle of 30 ml and a mini funnel to fill the perfume bottle thus harking back to common earlier practices relative to perfume-wearing where ladies would keep little funnels for just precisely that purpose.
