Henry Cavill Promotes Dunhill London & The Color of His Eyes {Fragrance News} {Scented Images}

Henry-Cavill-Dunhill-Launch2.jpg

'Tis a bit late, but here are some pictures of the dashing Henry Cavill at the launch of the new cologne for men, Dunhill London. We reported previously about the fragrance here.

Interestingly, the blue of the advert and the juice in the bottle matches exactly the color of Cavill's eyes. This is what you call precision work on the perfume and celebrity image synergy....

Top 5 Total Prestige Fragrances in 2007 in the US {Fragrance News}

According to the NPD Group, the overall trend in 2007 for purchases of prestige fragrances in the US can be characterized as one having shown greater conservatism despite or maybe because of the over-abundance of launches. It will be interesting to see whether of not this trend slows down a bit this year.

Sales for both men's and women's prestige perfumes were down 1 % and some qualitative data indicate that women tended to buy perfumes that they had already worn in the past, a possible reaction elicited by the avalanche of novelties. Purchases were also oriented towards tried-and-tested brands that had already been in the market at least since 2006. These sales grew by 2 % last year....

Lilly Pulitzer To Launch Perfume Wardrobe {Fragrance News}

Lilly-Pulitzer2.jpg

Fashion design label Lilly Pulitzer, which celebrates the Florida lifestyle with bold prints and colors is preparing to enter the fragrance business this year. They will start by proposing a wardrobe of scents rather than a unique signature perfume. Fragrances will be developed by Pulse Points LLC. which created the Leiber perfume last year.

The brand stress that they "come from a juice stand" in the late 1950s and that they are all about bright, happy colors, which will be reflected in the products.

Les Parfums de Rosine will release a new perfume this spring at the end of April 2008 called Un Zéphir de Rose. It is said to be a fragrance based on a subtle mix of aniseed and rose. The press communication at this point does not specify whether it is green aniseed or star aniseed. It will be available in 50 and 100 ml flacons.

Estee Lauder have released a new bottle packaging for their classic fragrance Youth-Dew released in 1953. They re-edited the bathroom tile blue flacon of the 1950s according to the Estee Lauder website. Advertisings from that era show that actually, the small-waisted bottle was also commercialized in the late 1950s some time after the initial introduction of Youth-Dew as a bath oil and beauty product......

Duftstars 2008 Perfume Finalists {Fragrance News}

Duftstars-mosaic.jpg
The Duftstars 2008, the German equivalent of the Fifi awards in the US, have released the list of their finalists. The winners will be announced on April 26th, 2008 in Berlin.

The Duftstars have four categories for both men and women: Exclusive, Prestige, Lifestyle, and Classical. What many people call "niche" perfumes are to be found in the Exclusive category; Prestige regroups what is usually loosely described as "department-store" fragrances; Lifestyle includes mass-marketed and celebrity perfumes; Classical is a more historical category that offers the chance to put the spotlight on classical greats of the past that are still marketed.

This last category is particularly interesting because it seems that the competition is more wide open and it invites commentators to understand why a certain classic fragrance is remembered one particular year. This year it is nice to see that Knize Ten (1924) is a finalist; it is a confidential perfume that deserves to be better known for its beauty (see our review Part 1 & Part 2).

Fabbies Awards Nomination For The Scented Salamander Fragrance Blog & Daily Webzine {Fragrance News}

Logo-Scented-Salamander.jpg

We are pleased to announce that The Scented Salamander was nominated for a Fabbies Award, a fashion prize for blogs and e-zines, in the Beauty Category.

We want to say that it is heartwarming to see fragrance recognized as an essential part of daily beauty rituals.

At a time when the internet has become the preferred venue for women consumers, it is only fitting that specialized prizes for online media are created. A new SOFRES study, just out, conducted at the general European level, reveals that the internet is the media, of all the medias, that receive the highest marks from women and that 87% of them think that the new media have made them more interested in what the brands have to offer (FashionMag.fr, 01/29/2008). A 2007 Nielsen survey quoted by Inc magazine next month reveals that "a surprising 66 percent of North American consumers trust blogs as a source of product information,"(Inc, Feb 2008). As an anticipation of these trends, last year, the Glam Media network, of which this blog is an affiliate became the #1 online women property.

Congrats to all the nominees and many, may thanks to all the readers, commenters, interviewees, colleagues, and guest writers that have contributed to the quality and popularity of The Scented Salamander, The Fragrance Blog & Daily Webzine.

You can vote for this blog until April 30th 2008 (you need to sign up) by clicking on the banner below or on the Vote-For-Me button in the upper left side of the site pages.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony scheduled to kick off New York Fashion Week in September of 2008.

Again, Thank You So Much!

New Tokyo Address For Le Labo + New Exclusive {Scented Paths & Fragrant Addresses} {Fragrance News}

Le-Labo-Tokyo.jpg
 Le Labo in Daikanyama

Le Labo, the independent creative perfumery with a Jacobin mindset set up by two French ex-marketing exec (see our Q & A) in New York city is continuing its global expansion by inaugurating both in-store spaces and stand-alone stores in key urban parts of world, i.e. fashion capitals. They recently inaugurated some counter space at Colette, Paris, a store at Liberty in London and have now a new store in Tokyo, Japan. The design is clean, industrial, minimalist, in tune with Le Labo concept, that of offering perfumes mixed straight from the lab with as little chichi as possible, except for the indulgence of seeing one's name printed on the bottle label.......
