Coty to Launch Lady Gaga Perfume {Fragrance News} {Celebrity Perfume}

Apparently it's not a spoof this time. (Added: on September 12, 2010 Coty confirmed that Gaga will create a perfume under their aegis.)  The glaringly missing celebrity fragrance when you looked at the series of celebs launches was Lady Gaga's. Coty noticed the void too and reportedly are working with the mega visual pop singer to release her debut signature scent. There are going to be oodles of material to pick from to build the universe around this new perfume!...

Betsey Johnson Plays with Perfume Again {Fragrance News}

Narciso Rodriguez Essence EDP Intense & Musc Collection Fall 2010 (2010): Perfumery Material Monogamy {New Perfume} {Fragrance News}

Armani Acqua di Gioia Gets Air-Pulsed at 5 Bus Stations in France {Fragrance News}

JC Decaux, a French company which specializes in urban furniture and outdoor advertising, has organized an innovative fragrance ad campaign for Armani by setting up an on-demand perfume diffusion system in five "abribus" or covered bus cubicle stations located at strategic places in Paris, Marseilles and Nice. The campaign which takes place from July 7th to July 13th 2010 is also coordinated by Zenith Optimedia and L'Oréal Parfum...

Yves Saint Laurent Belle d'Opium (2010): More Information on the New-Generation Opium {New Perfume} {Fragrance News} {Scented Thoughts}

The official concept behind the anticipated public launch of Belle d'Opium is not very different from what Opium purported to be when it launched in 1977, to be a modern-day Shalimar better attuned to younger generations. Belle d'Opium plays the same card but by being a direct descendant of its own oriental reference, its classic Opium ancestor launched in 1977 and 1978. The luxurious USA launch party, which is still remembered t day, took place on the Peking boat docked at the tip of Manhattan in the South Street seaport in New York City in 1978 with Yves Saint Lauren himself having come to introduce his new over-the-counter drug.

 If you want to learn more about the ins and outs of the original Opium launch both in France and in the USA, you have to read the fascinating chapter Michael Edwards consecrated this modern classic which was designed from the get-go to rival Shalimar by Guerlain (1925) while drawing on the popularity in the US of Youth-Dew by Estée Lauder (1952) in Perfume Legends....

Jacques Attali Disserte sur le Parfum dans Conversations d'Avenir {Fragrance News}

Jacques Attali peut parler de tout et il en donne une fois de plus la preuve dans l'émission Conversations d'Avenir qui, m'a-t'on dit, est hebdomadaire. Cette semaine le thème abordé avec la journaliste Stéphanie Bonvicini était le parfum. Il y a des moments savoureux où la prospective olfactive se marie avec l'humour, même parfois involontaire, comme lorsque Bonvicini propose l'idée d'un fromage français apprêté pour l'export, c'est-à-dire débarassé de sa senteur, que dis-je, de sa puanteur. Voilà encore une fois à l'oeuvre la tentation de désodoriser la France à l'exportation et de vendre une France qui sente le propre jusque dans le Roquefort ou le Maroilles (j'en ai ris à gorge déployée car Bonvicini a l'air si sérieuse lorsqu'elle dit cela).

Je note au passage qu'Attali avance le chiffre de 60 ingrédients - résultant en une combinatoire très riche - pour fabriquer les parfums. Alors là, c'est une vue de l'esprit. Cela n'a rien à voir ni avec le nombre de matériaux disponibles (plusieurs milliers, sans compter par exemple la technologie du fractionnement moléculaire), ni avec une limite imposée sur le nombre d'ingrédients inclus dans un seul parfum.

Et puis, est-ce-que la définition de la mode c'est que tout le monde porte la même chose? Serait-on à l'armée? Donc, si tout le monde ne porte pas le même parfum, cela ne peut être appelé un phénomène de mode? Ne serait-il pas plus souple et utile de considérer qu'il existe des micros et des macros tendances, par exemple, au sein de la mode?

Thanks to a reader's tip, we learned that the upcoming feminine fragrance by Gucci fronted by Rachel Evan Wood is called Guilty.

And yes, we can confirm that there is a fragrance in a black packaging with gold lettering bearing the words Gucci Guilty. It's an eau de toilette.
