ABIHPEC (Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Higiene Pessoal, Perfumaria e Cosméticos) the Brazilian Association of Personal Hygiene, Perfumery and Cosmetics, have confirmed that in 2012, Brazil was the world's leading market for perfumery and deodorants, a fact which had already been stressed in 2010...

The fragrance sector earned $ 5.4 billion (15.9% of total) and deodorants, U.S. $ 3.3 billion (9.7% of total). The average rate of growth for fragrances in the last five years was 14.2% and deodorants, 15.3%.

Observers have noted that while Brazilians love perfume, currently it is the mass-market segment of the market which predominates. For Avon, it is their most important market amounting to about 25% of their business as direct sales are ingrained in consumers' habits.

Recently LVMH-owned Sephora opened their first store in April 2013 in Sao Paulo and L'Artisan Parfumeur, a niche label, did the same. The latter also created a Brazilian perfume back in 2011 called Batucada.

ABIHPEC stress that in other market categories, Brazil comes only second to a leader market for the categories of Bath (U.S. $ 3.4 billion, with an average growth of 15.7% over the past five years), Hair (the largest in the domestic market, with sales of $ 7.7 billion and growth of 7.7% ); Kids (U.S. $ 1.3 billion, up 17.9%); Men (U.S. $ 4.1 billion and up 16.2%), and Sun Protection (U.S. $ 1.1 billion and growing 11 , 2%).
