coty-logo.jpgCoty Inc have announced on Tuesday November 23, 2010 that they had acquired beauty company Philosophy from the Carlyle Group, an investors' group, a move which is meant to help them diversify the activities of their Coty Prestige branch.

Aveda Hand-Relief for Breast Cancer Awareness Month {Product Review - Beauty Notes - Skin}

Aveda-hand-relief-cancer-A.jpg
Aveda are launching a specially packaged Pink Ribbon Hand-Relief cream for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The tube becomes partly ribboned in pink and reminds you in English and French across the raspberry-colored strip, "Have you had your annual breast exam?" or if you prefer to say it in French, "Avez-vous subi votre examen des seins annuel?"

What the brand says on their website about the product:

"Incredibly rich moisture therapy soothes dry, chapped hands--leaving them noticeably softer and smoother. Hydrating plant emollients, humectants, exfoliating fruit acids and anti-oxidants--including vitamins A and E--help diminish signs of aging and provide optimal relief. Increases moisture levels and elasticity in skin with continued use."....

The July-August 2010 issue of French consumer magazine Que Choisir (What to Choose) examined 17 different sunscreens and through a series of consumers' and specialists' tests narrowed down a Top Ten.

The analysis of the article is worth reading in particular as it raises a watchdog concern regarding nanoparticles, which have cosmetic qualities allowing some sunscreens to offer a transparent, sheer textures but whose impact on human health and the environment is still not sufficiently evaluated. Concerns have been raised about their destructive effect on the DNA of skin cells.

Within the European Union, the law regulating the visibility of information on nanoparticles on packaging will be effective only from February 2013

Keep the Bugs at Bay on the 4th of July: Spritz, Soap Up & Shampoo {Beauty Notes}

CB-Outside.jpg

With the 4th of July celebrations just around the corner and barbecue parties in sight all summer long, it might be time to think about how not to get your blood aspired by mosquitoes looking for lunch on the lawn.

Mosquitoes are attracted to the chemical messages sent by carbon dioxides, lactic and carboxylic acids that we produce. The more you activate your metabolism and perspire, the more likely the female mosquitoes will pick up on you from a kilometer away. A good anti-perspirant might be a first step. It's also recommended to eat less salt and potassium-rich foods like potatoes, tomatoes, cucumber, cauliflower, chard, strawberries, bananas...ahem, where is the bug-repellent?

Here are a few perfume-related suggestions that are easy to implement.

Brooklyn-based CB I Hate Perfume has a special weapon of choice to fight off unsightly bugs. Christopher Brosius is a chap full of memories from childhood and smells from the countryside and gardens he has frequented. Meaning, he gets the issue. He created CB # 803 Outside perfume spray ($45 on cbihateperfume.com) which is a special concoction that serves to both scent your clothes and feet in order to deflect mosquitoes...

Sunscreen Q & A with Dermatologist Dr. Neal Schultz from NYC {Beauty Notes}

Sunscreen.jpgOK, here is the sunscreen Q & A  I mentioned earlier on.

The Lure of Argan Oil by Guest Contributor Pauline

Surfing on the Argan oil’s wave, Naturelle d’Argan is an organic and ethical skin care range, which uses the highly regenerative oil of Moroccan origin that nourishes, protects and moisturizes the skin.

The 100% organic argan oil is reported to contain over 20 nutrients for the skin, such as Omega 6 and Omega 9, vitamin E and Polyphenol, which are powerful anti-oxidants. Berber women, who have traditionally been in charge of the hand picked harvests of Argan nuts, use this anti-aging oil for their beauty rituals (body, hair and nails).

The Naturelle d’Argan range comprises 4 face and 3 body skin cares, including an original exfoliating cleansing gel made of finely ground Argan seeds and apricot kernel. The Argan oil, called “Pure Argan Elixir,” is labelled “Cosmebio”, which guarantees the use of a minimum of 95% of natural ingredients and 10% of bio ingredients. It is Paraben-free, Silicone-free and GMO-free ingredients. The oil can be used for face, body and hair-care.....
