For a Change, The Natural Look at Balmain RTW 2010 {Beauty Notes} {Look of the Day}

Exactly the kind of look one wishes to see on a Friday: Balmain went for a very natural look for its show for RTW 2010 to contrast it with ornate outfits.

Tom Pecheux said "We are working and playing with every detail of the face without showing it,"

Hair

Sam McKnight was even more understated: he just sprayed water on the models' hair and ran his fingers through it.

Kim Kardashian Black Vampy Makeover by Troy Jensen for YRB {Beauty Notes} {Look of the Day} {Celebrity Beauty}

Okay, as I told you last time when looking at the Chanel Les Noirs Obscurs, I am very much interested in exploring - even if only through empirical observation - the really black vampy look that has been the new daring shade to sport. Daring is just fine, provided it does not transform you into a makeup victim. I am convinced it looks spectacular on a magazine spread and am still waiting for my first sighting of a normal person on the street done up in black pigments, on the lips. If it's someone with an obvious Gothic membership card, then I will be half-convinced. I really am hoping to see someone, say a fashionista, make it blend with her scarf (by the way I lately saw two extraordinary beings dressed like fashion extremists or drag queens, the second one wafted a divine sillage of Angel by Thierry Mugler, the best I've smelled so far.) But no black lips.

Onto the news. It's about Kim Kardashian's Stars-of-the-Silent-Era, Louise-Brooks inspired makeover by makeup artist Troy Jensen. I was interested in particular to learn how he did her black lips since the brand he exclusively used is Dior and they do not have a black lipstick out that I could remember...

A Young Kate Moss Auditioning for L'Oreal

From the archives come two videos of a young Kate Moss auditioning for l'Oréal. There is a longer silent footage after the jump. In it she offers her profile to the camera at one point. In that moment she made me think of Marilyn Monroe. They look nothing alike 3/4 and from the front, but they have similar profiles...

David Beckham •• Icon of Masculinity in Emporio Armani {Beauty Notes - Look of the Day}

Yesterday saw the unveiling of the new Emporio Armani underwear campaign fronted by soccer player David Beckham at Union Square Park in San Francisco, California.

Ads used to be called sexist when women were undressed on them; we don't know what people are going to be able to say about this one since there are now too many men offered as eye candies on adverts. Maybe, unfair to the average guy?

The strip tease begins,

Keith Richards for Louis Vuitton: Wrinkles That Fly {Look of the Day - Beauty Notes}

Latest Vuitton advert shot by photographer Annie Leibowitz

In this day and age permeated with youth-oriented ideology it is so striking to see someone sporting their deep wrinkles proudly, even if a man, that Louis Vuitton decided to ask rocker Keith Richards to help them catch readers' and gawkers' attention in their new advert for their luxurious luggage line. It worked. Leafing through Vanity Fair, we had to take a pause and appreciate the Grand-Canyon style wrinkles, thinking that apart from Mother Theresa and an old peasant woman, it probably would not be considered as photogenic or charismatic with a feminine model......
