Bsq Natural Couture Bergamot Noir Inspires Blind Art (2011) {New Fragrance} {Green Products}

Bsq_Natural_bergamot_noir.jpgLast year, Bsq Natural Couture, formerly known as Berkeley Square Cosmetics Co., whose aim is to combine the tailored feel in fragrance with a reliance on natural ingredients, launched their latest perfume called Bergamot Noir. It came after the award-winning White Bergamot; White Amber; White Muguet...

Crow Water + Parfum Collection (2011) {New Fragrances} {Green Products}

Crow_Perfume.jpgCrow Perfume is a new indie brand founded by Emily Lape, who was inspired to think of creating water-based perfumes stripped of some of their potentially harmful ingredients, after experiencing recurring skin allergies with marketed fragrances. The oniric influence of a dream she made after reading Aesop's fable, "The Crow and the Pitcher" apparently sealed her determination to forge ahead and is behind the name of her label...

PureDKNY Verbena (2011): Still Sustainable {New Fragrance} {Green Products}

Pure_DKNY_Verbena.jpgDKNY will add a new perfume to the Pure collection in August 2011, which was inaugurated in 2010 with PureDKNY. While the original Pure was centered on Ugandan vanilla, the second fragrance focuses on a new, equally carefully sourced material after which it is named: PureDKNY Verbena.

Diane Kim, senior vice president of global marketing for Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, DKNY, Michael Kors and Missoni at the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. said,

Pure broke new ground for fragrances as it is responsible and sustainable, and we are continuing that trend with PureDKNY Verbena.”...

Aubrey Organics Musk - Musc: Musk in its Vegetal State {Fragrance Review} {Green Products}

aubrey_organics_musk_musc.jpg

As a patented musk fiend*, I am always interested in trying out a new straight-up musk blend. Some drink whiskey as a habit, I like to think that my recurring scent addiction leans in the direction of a shot of musk.

In the case of the Musk or Musc Eau de Parfum by natural brand Aubrey Organics founded under the name Aubrey's Nature Labs in 1967 by Aubrey Hampton (1934-2011), who was also a beauty author and a playwright, it becomes even more interesting to test that proposition as the musky effect is entirely derived from other sources than real or synthetic musk. The composition is based on the use of natural musky nuances found in vegetal materials and the result is worth considering, if like me, a simple but well-made musk oil can become your Joy de Patou du jour...

C2C LIV GRN Cherry Wood, Earth & Natural (2011): Eco-Savvy Scents {New Fragrances} {Green Products}

C2C_LIV_GRN.jpg

LIV GRN, a label developing organic tee-shirts printed with ethical, green messages, has released the fragrance versions of their fashion-with-a-conscience approach. Or as they prefer to put it, "eco-savvy" tack. While the scents are not all-natural and all-organic or eco-certified per se (we verified), they can still claim to be "biodegradable, sustainable, non-toxic" as well as free of a number of black-listed ingredients such as Phtalates, Sulfates and Triclosan (we're sparing you the ugly until the review.) The collection called C2C LIV GRN launches with three perfumes: Cherry Wood, Earth, Natural.

Sydney Holland, co-founder of LIV GRN said,

Our mission of making style and sustainability an ongoing part of our culture is brought to life
perfectly by our new fragrances," “We at LIV GRN are inspired by William Mcdonough and Michael Braungart, authors of Cradle to Cradle, a fantastic, optimistic view of creating goods and services that generate ecological and social value.  It was important for us to create a family of fragrances that wouldn’t sacrifice attention to environmental impact in order to achieve beauty and style
.”...

Nuxe Bio Beauté Eau Fraîche de Toilette aux Fruits du Soleil & Eau Fraîche de Parfum aux Fruits Epicés (2009-2010)

bio-nuxe-parfums.jpg

Beauty brand Nuxe released in 2009 a duo of organic perfumes in two concentrations, in eau de toilette and eau de parfum called Fruits du Soleil and Fruits Epicés. They are part of the wave of mainstream organic scents that is washing over the shelves of the large distribution network in France via channels such as Monoprix supermarkets and parapharmacies.

This Holidays season, a limited-edition of the two juices will be available in a new, more tailored packaging. The compositions apparently remain the same...

Shantara Isiris (2010): Organically Inspired by Egypt {New Fragrance} {Green Products}

shantara-isiris.jpg

Organic brand of perfume Shantara have released a new composition signed by Grasse-based Jean-Claude Gigodot. It is called Isiris and follows Rêve Etoilé and Shaman pour Homme.

The brand's website which likes to offer a dramatic showcasing of their perfumes belies the preconceived notion that organic fragrances are only targeting a return-to-nature movement. Historical and aesthetic cues wrap the new scent in a storied atmosphere and if there is another type of return alluded to here, it is a return to the sources of civilization...

Bio' Rêve Eau de Toilette Sensuelle Bio (2008) {Fragrance Review} {Green Products}

bio-reve-eau-sensuelle.jpg

Eau de Toilette Sensuelle by Bio' Rêve is part of a new generation of natural fragrances which aim to be developed outside of the purview of the petrochemical industry regarding the essences it uses while getting further away from simplistic aromatherapy blends and closer to aesthetically-constrained fragrance-composing. Bio' Rêve (Bio Dream) is a French brand which has released a number of Eco-certified compositions since 2008. Their aim is to associate "the pure tradition of French perfumery" with an organic creed using a palette of raw materials devoid of the substances which have triggered public health concerns, including synthetic musks, Phthalates and Parabens, but not limited to these 3 most famous scare-mongering ingredients which they advertise most clearly. The company also mentions that they exclude Phenoxyethanol, glycol ethers, Polyethylene glycol (PEG). The packaging of their fragrances inform consumers that they are constituted of 100% natural ingredients and 81% organic ingredients. Progresses in the domain of natural and organic perfumery are quite rapid in France it seems and perfumes tend to become more and more satisfying each year although some are still technological letdowns (I am thinking of a Snö Bioflowers deodorant I tried in 2009.) It becomes therefore interesting to be increasingly able to apply the criteria of complexity, structure, diffusion and lasting power to natural perfumes, in 2010 even more so than in 2008.

Notes: lemon, clementine, organic geranium rosewood, ginger, neroli, davana, patchouli...

Honoré des Prés We Love New York 100% Natural Trio of Perfumes (2010) {New Fragrances} {Green Products}

Honore-Love-NYC.jpg
N-Letter-TSS.jpgNewcomer French brand of natural perfumes Honoré des Prés have launched their second collection of fragrances following an initial introduction of 5 scents in 2008. Perfumer Olivia Giacobetti is the nose behind all these creations which want to appeal to the-back-to-nature eco-minded customers. This time it's NYC which is the source of inspiration complete with its coffee cups to go. Hmmm, you might say, what's so special about that? The idea, I guess, is that from a French standpoint, they look so NY, plus the packaging is eco-friendly.

We Love New York includes three perfumes which are said to be 100% natural: Vamp à New York (Vamp in New York), Love Coco and I Love Les Carottes (I Love Carrots)...

Hanae Mori Eaux de Collection No.1 (2010): Sustainable Scents {New Perfume} {Green Products}

hanae-mori-No1-B.jpg
Hanae Mori will introduce a new perfume in May 2010 which will help point to the future of perfumery going in a very green direction and we do not mean the perfume notes.

No.1 is a limited-edition fragrance which is part of a new collection entitled Eaux de Collection (lit. Collection Waters). Its defining characteristic is that perfumes created under this label are made

 "...using renewable energy sources and which will benefit Clean Air-Cool Planet, an organization dedicated to combating global warming."...

Auric Blends Naturals Layla, Pele, Siren, Tara (2009) {New Perfumes} {Green Products}

Auric-Blends-Naturals-B.jpg
Auric Blends, which are well-known for their budget, accessible and sexy perfume oils have now turned to all-natural perfume-making. You might have heard of their #1 best-seller Egyptian Goddess, a soft feminine musk scent, but also more recently of their #2 best-seller Love voted my fave in 2007 for Valentine's Day now repackaged in pink to make the charm work better.

The brand have released a quatuor of new fragrance oils which play the green, eco-conscious card that so many are attracted to these days and for good reason. It's just that sometimes marketed compositions are still a bit medicinal, in an involuntary way, or too simple. It's not always easy, but Auric Blends which specialize in simple mixes should not disappoint for the latter part at least. At the same time, I see more and more sophisticated eco-certified blends appear, especially in France...

Les Sens des Fleurs E'Sens, Ideel des Sens, A Double Sens (2009): Scents Co-Signed by Dr. Bach {New Perfumes} {Green Products}

les-sens-des-fleurs-parfums.jpg
Les Sens des Fleurs (lit.The Meanings of Flowers), is a French eco-certified bio cosmetics brand founded by Stella Mordocco-Menendez. They just released a new collection of perfumes based on the principles and ingredients developed by Dr. Edward Bach and his famous flowers. The wellness theme is taken to heart here as each fragrance is not only an olfactory composition that smells good but has a flowers-of-Dr.-Bach formula included in it to help elevate the moods of women (some would say, good luck with that!).

The series is called Actes de Fleurs (Flowers' Acts) and includes E'Sens, Idéel des Sens, A Double Sens...

L'Artisan Parfumeur Cote d'Amour: Ecocert Certified (2009) {New Perfume} {Green Products}

Cote-damour-lartisan-C.jpg
L'Artisan Parfumeur is going to release their second very green and eco-conscious scent following Jatamansi last year. Like the first scent in the series, it is Ecocert Certified and Cosmebio labeled.

The new jus is called Côte d'Amour in reference to the coastal area defined as "... the coast west of Nantes and just south of Guérand, that runs north of the Loire estuary from St Nazaire to le Croisic."

The composition is by perfumer Céline Ellena who last year introduced a fragrance called Sublime Balkiss for another niche perfume house of which she is the nose-in-title, The Different Company. I mention that other scent as I see a common point between the two perfumes as both hold a reference to the wind, misty air, and external elements, albeit Côte d'Amour appears a priori more solar and drier...
