Alas, we were not fast enough. We wanted to review the new limited-edition by Lolita Lempicka Fleur Défendue/Forbidden Flower showcasing absinthe flower. It is already sold out and discontinued per an email from Sephora (US). It is however still available in France.
If in 1998 Caron chose an étoile ballet dancer, Patrick Dupond, to incarnate the image of masculinity they wanted to project for their classic lavender cologne Pour Un Homme (For A Man), in 2008 it appears much more controversial to present a type of man that is as far removed as one could dream of from the new take on masculinity commonly dubbed "metrosexual".....

Gucci have announced that American actor James Franco, who incarnated Harry Osborn in the Spider Man movie trilogy, will be the spokesperson for their next masculine cologne to be launched in September 2008. Artistic director Frida Giannini said she chose him as he “represents [her] vision of the Gucci man: stylish, cool, modern and contemporary with an effortless air” Via Cosmetic News & The Cinema Source
We all know that Nicole Kidman is expecting...or at least now you know. The impact of this piece of news on perfume history has just been felt. Women's Wear Daily reported on Wednesday April 16 that French actress Audrey Tautou is rumored to be the next spokesmodel for Chanel No. 5 fragrance.....

Cosmétique Mag announced that L'Artisan Parfumeur have made the novel move of recruiting an in-house perfumer, like Jean-Michel Duriez for Jean Patou, Richard Fraysse for Caron, or Jean-Claude Ellena for Hermès. Perfumers who are exclusively employed by a fragrance house to develop all of their perfumes (in principle) are a very select minority in the world of fragrances, but it is really what makes a perfume brand more of a perfume house in the traditional sense of the expression......

Perfume collectors will be pleased to know that Lolita Lempicka has issued a new Deluxe Gift Set comprising a necklace accompanying a 1.7 fl oz bottle of their signature fragrance. Notes of this modern classic are: Ivy Leaves, Aniseed, Amarena Heart, Violets, Iris Roots, Vetiver, Tonka Bean, Vanilla, Musk. Available only online and at Sephora for $ 60.
What we said in the title; Agent Provocateur offer a new design for the flacon of their latest perfume, Strip. In 2007 there used to be a trendy hosiery-themed red-fishnet pattern on the bottle, now they have splattered the glass with black paint, borrowing from the imagery of the advert. The 50 ml sexy hand-grenade retails for $ 75
Designer Vera Wang will be honored with the 2008 Hall-of-Fame Award given by the Fragrance Foundation in the USA, "The Hall of Fame award is voted on by The Fragrance Foundation’s Board of Directors and is presented to an individual who has brought extraordinary ingenuity, dedication and inner resources to bear, not only on his/her company’s success, but to the fragrance industry as a whole." [...] "Vera's contributions include the highly successful Vera Wang, Sheer Veil, Bouquet, and Truly Pink fragrances as well as the most recent introduction of Vera Wang Princess and Flower Princess."
According to Douglas Bender from the Fragrance Foundation, the consumer vote will indeed count this year for the FIFI Awards and can even outweigh the industry vote if the grass-root one is numerous enough (see previous post about request for clarification). He is the person who was inspired to bring in the popular vote this year for the first time to the US FIFI awards in the later stages. We do not know about the number of participating industry members in the US, but last year for the French FIFIs, there were 1300 industry members contacted and 50 % responded with votes, to give you a ballpark figure. Added by Bender for the US: "a few thousand" "Voting officially begins online April 28th (after the April 25th announcement of the nominees). It will remain open until May 12th. It is not an alternate. If enough consumers vote, they can actually outweigh the industry vote. I will then live blog the event on the 20th, to reveal the winners as they are announced, followed then shortly after with video."
Where to go to vote? On Facebook, Iqons, and My Space (you can also get their widget if you would like to advertise it on a website).....

We were contacted to be told that the Fifi Awards were opening up to the consumer vote this year to vote for the best fragrances of 2007 in 2008. We have asked for further clarification on the direct impact your votes would have on the awards as it is unclear whether it is more of a parallel popular poll and more of a PR operation or a real opening-up to taking into account consumers' votes into the process. The Fifis already determined the top 10 finalists this year without consulting the broader audience. We also requested more details about the consumer voting process. If confirmed, it certainly would be a change of spirit from their policy of requesting contestants for their Fragrance Film Festival not to cast perfumes in a negative light as reported about previously,
"Your film should not contain any explicit content or showcase the fragrance in a negative light"
We will keep you updated.
Le Grand Prix du Parfum 2008 The 2008 edition of the French Fifi Awards saw the partnership of French fashion magazine Marie-Claire with the France-based Fragrance Foundation for the second year in a row. 10 prizes were attributed, including the "Prix de la rédaction de Marie-Claire" or Marie-Claire's own editorial prize. Two full lines of perfumes were rewarded collectively: Les Exclusifs and Notre Flore. A movie with a music score by Laurent Assoulen was also shown about the evolution of perfumery in the last 30 years (if we do get more information about this film, we will post about it later).
This year the winners are: • The new version of Pucci Vivara, as the favorite of the Marie-Claire editorial board. • Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur du Mâle as best masculine fragrance in the selective distribution sector....
