Le Figaro published an article on the upcoming Louis Vuitton perfume (see previous article) which reveals further information about the way the brand is approaching the launch of their debut signature fragrance.
Louis Vuitton have a somewhat unique perspective on the project as they do not need a perfume launch like other fashion or luxury labels do in terms of image promotion or financial gain. From what transpires from the article it seems that LV might be nevertheless interested in gaining something akin to a Chanel status in the fragrance world altough it's not been explicitly said...

Natural Fashion: Tribal Decoration from Africa by Hans Silvester, published by Thames and Hudson We wanted to announce that we will be running a series on perfumes inspired by the African continent and its aromatic cultures. It actually all started in Paris as this blogger was pulled in by some distinctive trails. A little investigation was in order. Not all has been elucidated (of course) but you will be able to follow the progress of this quest and imagining on the blog in the coming months. Please check back today also for an interview with Jean Paul Millet Lage of Maître Parfumeur et Gantier as he remembers perfumer Jean-François Laporte (1938-2011).

Designer Parfums have announced that they have recruited perfumer Thomas Fontaine to be their in-house perfumer to oversee their portfolio of fragrance brands. Those include the houses of Jean Patou, Agent Provocateur, Parfums Sherrer, Aigner, Monsoon Fragrances and Worth, Paris. Normally, perfumers work very much on a for-hire basis and go through a competitive selection process for each perfume that are meant to be launched on the market...

The British Advertising Standards Authority have struck down the Oh, Lola! by Marc Jacobs fragrance ad (see after the jump) as willy-nilly promoting the sexualisation of children by being too sexually explicit and not socially responsible. It portrays a pre-nubile-looking Dakota Fanning holding a bottle of perfume in a manner as to play upon sexual innuendoes. Coty who produces the fragrance said they admitted being "edgy" but nothing more. Fanning who is 16 going on 17 can look younger, and was made to look like a modern-day Lolita by Marc Jacobs in the advert...

Following up on an earlier announcement, Coty Prestige released more news about the fragrance venture signed "Madonna." The perfume will be the prelude to the launch of a lifestyle brand called Truth or Dare by Madonna. The singer is said to have confessed that,
"I have always been obsessed by fragrance and for years wanted to create something personal that was an expression of me but that other people could relate to as well: something honest, and yet daring, hence the name Truth or Dare," Which in French gives (Coty France release) (you knew that Lourdes goes to the French school in London, right?) « J’ai toujours été obsédée par l’univers des parfums », a confié Madonna à Women’s Wear Daily. « Cela fait des années que je rêve de créer une fragrance personnelle, qui soit non seulement l’expression de moi-même, mais que les autres puissent également s’approprier. Un parfum sincère et audacieux à la fois, d’où son nom, Truth or Dare*.”...

Malaysian actress and producer Michelle Yeoh will be the next face of a Guerlain fragrance, it has been announced by the house. The name of the perfume has not been revealed yet. The thinking heads at Guerlain are pinning their hopes on the actress' popularity to help the Asian markets warm up to the idea of wearing perfume, a cultural habit which remains yet to be developed in the region.

Tarkine rainforest by Rob Blakers
Symrise, one of the major fragrance designer companies in the world, went for their latest scent expedition to Tasmania, after having previously sent their perfumers on exploratory trips in search of brave new scents to India and China. The theme of the expedition this time was "The Cleanest Air on Earth." One of the geographic spots the specialists wanted to travel to was Cape Grim, which according to scientific research has been assessed to have the cleanest air in the world. Karen Solari, Vice President Home Care Marketing Scent & Care North America, said: “Based on the results of a recent consumer study, we wanted to concentrate on the concept of purity. That's why we decided to make the place with the purest air our destination for this expedition. The rainforest, on the other hand, allowed us to experience a plant and scent environment unlike any other, providing us with new horizons for fragrance creation.”....

Luxury leathergoods and fashion brand Louis Vuitton will propose a debut fragrance bearing the famous, coveted monogram. If in 2009, the internet were making jokes about a faux Vuitton perfume to come recognizing that a glaring void needed to be filled in the midst of the unrestrained number of fragrance launches, in June 2011 Marc Jacobs hinted that a Vuitton scent was actually in the making...
