Private Blend by Tom Ford {New Perfumes}

Tom Ford announced that his Private Blend collection will launch in about 8 weeks coinciding with the opening of his store. The collection comprise 12 scents that are marketed as being unisex although the designer admitted that 6 of them will probably appeal more to women and the 6 others to men. He finally settled the issue by stressing that the Private Blend fragrances are mostly meant to reach out to connoisseurs, i.e., people who don't care about these distinctions. Distribution will be very limited, not more than 5 selling-points in the US alone.....

 The perfumes will be housed in dark brown glass apothecary flacons with gold accents, which is meant to offer flexibility to the brand for developing occasional limited editions without having to invest into packaging research.

"The Private Blend scents are Amber Absolute, Noir de Noir, Velvet Gardenia, Black Violet, Tobacco Vanille, Oud Wood, Purple Patchouli, Bois Rouge, Moss Breches, Tuscan Leather, Neroli Portofino and Japan Noir. “When I was creating Black Orchid [his women’s scent, launched in November], I kept smelling other things I liked — many of which were too expensive to use in a broadly distributed fragrance, and others that we can’t use for a broader fragrance because they won’t appeal to everyone. I kept putting more and more things aside. Finally, it just seemed to make sense to develop them for my store."[...]

"Purple Patchouli is “sort of Sixties, with orchid, black leather and amber,” said Ford. “Bois Rouge has red cedarwood; Noir de Noir is a chypre oriental with patchouli and tree moss; Moss Breches is this really rare moss, and Tobacco Vanille smells like pipe tobacco. And these are fully developed fragrances, not one-note products."

Each of the Private Blend scents will be available in a 1.7-oz. eau de parfum spray flacon for $165 and an 8.3-oz. eau de parfum decanter for $450.
