All The Perfumes by Maison Francis Kurkdjian: A Diverse, Creative Catalog: Aqua Universalis, Les Colognes, Lumiere Noire, APOM, Les Bulles d'Agathe... {New Fragrances}
We have the skinny on the complete catalog of fragrances of the new Parisian perfume house established by nose Francis Kurkdjian baptized Maison Francis Kurkdjian. The flagship store opened yesterday 5, rue d'Alger, 75001 Paris.
But first, here is what the perfumer had to say to explain the concept of what a "house" is to him,
"J'ai choisi d'apposer le mot Maison devant mon pa-
tronyme. Ce n'est pas un effet de style, mais une ma-
nière d'exprimer ce que je ressens ; une maison a une
âme et une histoire, elle a ses habitants, ses amis et
aussi ses enfants. Toutes ces émotions qui m'habitent
sont réunies sous ce même mot et animées par un
même rêve : faire de mes grands bonheurs les petits
plaisirs des autres."
"I have chosen to put the word Maison next to my family name. This is not meant to be a stylistic effect but is a way of expressing what I feel. A house has a soul and a history, it has its dwellers, friends and also its children. All these emotions that are contained in me are gathered under this same name and brought to life by the same dream: to turn my great moments of happiness into the small pleasures of others"...
Focusing on just the fragrance catalog of the newborn house, you notice that some unconventional choices were made along with a desire to be diverse and comprehensive, but in a personal way, by creating new categories of scented meaning. Maison Francis Kurkdjian proposes the expected fine perfumes, but also a universal water, eaux de Cologne for two times of the day, a line of scented bubble solutions for kids, a leather bracelet which is scented with the perfume of your choice, and more.
Aqua Universalis is a scent that can be used on your skin, in your house or on your laundry. It can be worn both by adults and children or men and women. It is meant to be of a universal usage.
Notes are: bergamot, Sicilian cédrat, white bouquet (lily of the valley, seringa), clear, musky woods.
Cologne pour le Matin (Eau de Cologne for the Morning) is one of a duo of "colognes", in the French sense. This is meant to be worn after waking up in the morning or after a nap in the afternoon as a means to awakening softly.
Notes: Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian lemon, White Thyme from Morocco, Lavender from Provence, Tunisian neroli on a creamy, powdery and fresh accord.
Its counterpart is Cologne pour le Soir (Eau de Cologne for the Evening). The scent evokes an evening in winter or is an answer to the desire of feeling enveloped with softness. "A cashmere sweater or the embrace of the person you love."
Notes: Infusion of benzoin from Siam, honey from roses of Bulgaria and Iran, incense absolute.
Available in 200 ml bottles.
Lumière Noire pour Femme and Lumière Noire pour Homme are two illustrations of the same fundamental idea, to be able to translate the attraction of opposites, light and blackness. A rose-patchouli accord was selected to compose around this theme.
Notes for the women's version: spicy rose (cumin, chili), patchouli, narcissus.
Notes for the men's version: spicy rose (cumin, cinnamon), patchouli, mugwort.
APOM pour Femme and APOM pour Homme are inspired by the beauty of the men and women of the Orient oftentimes retold to Kurkdjian by his grand-mother. The perfumer was in particular inspired by a trip to Lebanon. APOM stands for A Piece Of Me.
The feminine version's notes: orange blossom, cedar and ylang-ylang
The masculine version's notes: orange blossom, cedar and amber.
Les Bulles d'Agathe (Agathe's Bubbles) is a line of bubble solutions inspired by a little girl named Agathe, a very curious 6-year old. The bubbles meant to be educational are said to come from the best manufacturer for them, who is located in Europe. Sounds like a great B-Day option!
Scents are Pear, Cold Mint and Cut Grass available in 45 ml.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian offers almost all of these scents in different iterations, including a scented leather bracelet called Tour Atour, but also in candles and burning paper. Kurkdjian did a couple of years ago a new version of the classic Papier d'Arménie.

Francis Kurkdjian is one of my very favourite perfumers and especially Lumière Noire and APOM sound very enticing.
Hopefully the new fragrances will be sold in Germany as well!
Yesterday I experienced a demonstration of several Maison Francis Kurkdjian perfumes. I was expecting not to buy anything but the scent of Aqua Universalis just kept calling to me. After I put some on, it wore so well and beautifully throughout the day. Despite the fact that I did not expect to splurge on myself, I had to come back later and buy a bottle. What a lovely scent. It makes me feel very special. Bravo.
