Givenchy will Launch a new fragrance within the Ange ou Démon franchise called Le Secret Elixir from August 2011. The advertising was shot by Mario Testino revealing an Uma Thurman at her raciest yet as the face of Ange ou Démon...

The actress stands her back to a mirror which unveils her dark and sexual side as her white dress (which was exhibited at Galeries Lafayette in the past) is reflected there as a a sort of S-M bandage-inspired black outfit exposing her buttocks. The full advertising image makes the visual even more enigmatic as she stands alone in a dark, empty room save for the mirror.

Oud here was used to make the concoction a more voluptious and deeper version of Le Secret as it is said to be "a new fragrance which brings the unsettling seduction of Ange ou Démon Le Secret to a climax."

The Eau de Parfum opens on top notes of Italian lemon, green tea and neroli. The heart rests on Sambac jasmine, orange blossom and frangipani flower. The base notes are vanilla, patchouli, cedar wood and white musk.

Prices: $99, $80,50 and $56,50 for 100ml, 50 ml and 30 ml respectively. Available at Macy's, Dillard's, Lord & Taylor and Sephora.

  1. Le Secret is a top seller here in Belgium. I understand it's appeal with young women that have outgrown their fruity florals but aren't quite ready for a "grown up" fragrance.
I think Le Secret as a scent is much more Ange than Demon, non? I suppose that Elixir will be the Demon side. Actually now that I think about it Givenchy should have launched 2 fragrances when they launched the original Ange ou Demon. Ange for day and than you could have layered it with Demon at night. Montana had a bit of the same concept with his Suggestion line of 3 perfumes for each part of the day that could be won individually or layered, but it was a flop...

    • It looks like it, that it wants to be the seriously sulfurous aspect of the scent.

I like the original Ange ou Démon. It deserves more critical attention. The scent itself plays on the classical motif of contradiction resolving into the harmony of perfume.

  2. There is actually no link to Oud in Ange ou Demon le Secret Elixir.
AouD is just the shorter version of Ange ou Demon.

    • Thank you. I asked the PR office, but did not wait for an answer.
