There is an article on natural and synthetic rose notes in perfumes and how rose fragrances have made an impact or failed to do so on the market. It briefly raises the speculative question of Guerlain Nahéma's commercial failure as opposed to the success of Stella by Stella McCartney more recently......

"The most sought-after flowers are Bulgarian and Turkish Rosa damascene, and Rosa centifolia, which is grown in Grasse in France.

However, according to Lambeth, you'd be hard pressed to find even a drop of these grand dames in most modern perfumes. Instead, synthetics such as 9-decenal, geranium oil, damascenone, rose oxide, rose alcohol and rose esters are used to re-create the rose."....
