There was an early announcement in October 2007 about an upcoming Daphne Guinness fragrance that would be created with Comme des Garçons (check out article on Niche Celebrity Perfumes: Rolling Out The Scented Red Carpet). The news are now confirmed with a launch planned for September 2009.
As with some celebrity perfumes such as L'Air de Rien by Miller Harris or Halle by Halle Berry, Daphne by Daphne Guinness attempts this semi-literary exercise, the autobiographical olfactory quote inserted in a perfume composition...
Perfumer Antoine Lie of Givaudan put all this into perfume form explaining,
"Guinness chose ingredients with personal meaning. Woody notes, for instance, recall floors and furniture from the house where she grew up, while oud was included since her mother often brought the ingredient back from trips to the Middle East."
"She always picked the most prestigious and expensive ingredients," "We've taken classic ingredients and arranged them in a way that is very modern."The perfume has top notes of bitter orange, incense and saffron. In the heart there are rose centifolia, Tunisian jasmine, tuberose and iris notes. In the base we find patchouli, oud, amber and vanilla notes.
A 50 ml bottle of Eau de Parfum is priced at $140.
