Magazine Monocle have released a second fragrance created in collaboration with Comme des Garçons following Hinoki in 2008. It is called Scent Two: Laurel. Interestingly, the creative team cites as a source of inspiration one that is often decried by niche perfumery aficionados often on the lookout for rarer sensations, that is soap...

Often amalgamated with cheap formulas and easy, lowest common denominator consensual scents, toiletry scents, soap nevertheless can be a point of departure for more confidential ambitious perfumes such as Frederic Malle Géranium pour Monsieur, designer scents such as Diesel Fuel for Life for Him, and last but not least mythical perfumes such as Chanel No.5.  Monocle promises that,

"...it will remind regular visitors to Lebanon of the country's hand-made laurel soaps and fragrant gardens in Byblos."

The composition was more generally inspired by a trip to the Bekaa Valley. It is described as a fresh, clean fragrance with warm laurel notes.

Antoine Maisondieu created the first Monocle perfume and it sounds like the same people worked on this project as well.

Available at Monocle from the first week of December 09 for £65 or $108.
