Fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, whose latest fragrance introductions were focusing on limited-editions with for example Oscar Soft Amber and Oscar de la Renta Fresh Vanilla in 2008 or Oscar Sheer Freesia in 2009, will go back to his roots with the launch of an apdated version of his 1977 eponymous fragrance Oscar de la Renta in April of 2011...

To convey the sense that the upcoming Eau de Parfum is a reinterpretation which remains nevertheless faithful to the original, it was called Esprit d'Oscar (Spirit of Oscar.) The original 70s Oscar was created by perfumer Jean-Louis-Sieuzac. The spirit of it was re-composed by perfumer Frank Voelkl of Firmenich in collaboration with consultant Ann Gottlieb.

Esprit d'Oscar is said to be "still recognizable as Oscar, but a little different." The personality remains that of a floral oriental but the top notes are brighter thanks to hesperidic notes of Sicilian lemon, bergamot and citron. The floral heart rests on Egyptian jasmine, orange flower and tuberose. The base has reportedly a "creaminess" that "makes [the fragrance] very smooth, easy to wear and long lasting."

After reconnecting with the past by taking a fresh look at their debut fragrance, the brand plans to launch a really new composition in September of 2011.

Prices: a 1.6-oz. spray for $78 and a 3.3-oz. size for $98.
