Paul Smith Optimistic for Men & Women (2011) {New Fragrances}

British designer Paul Smith has launched a new duo of scents for men and women meant to conjure up a sense of unmistakable positivity in a context where all too often simple messages get lost. About Optimistic, Smith said,

“I wanted to create a fragrance that bottled the spirit of optimism – that captured the youthful enthusiasm and energy I see around me every day. It’s about time that someone made a positive statement,”...

 

Optimistic for Men:

"This fragrance is all about having fun, living life to the full and pure energy. " The Eau de Toilette opens on top notes of mandarin, black pepper. The heart has sage, geranium, mint, and a marine note. "The sensual base is classic Paul Smith, because of its cedar and vetiver note mixed with the enveloping amber."

Optimistic for Women:

"It has a vibrant and exciting fruity top note of pink berries and grapefruit, and contains the sweetness of cranberry, lychee and sweet pea in the heart, and the totally feminine base note of powdery orris and the delicious gourmand raspberry macaroon."

From a visual and fashion perspective, the trademark Paul Smith stripes have been transformed into ribbons on the packaging, a fact which is presented as a style evolution. It's stripes with not just color dynamism but movement dynamism. The multicolored stripes have moved to a corner where they act as logo.

The advertisement is like one for Calvin Klein CK One, but less anguished and wan.
