In September 2012, rapper Nicki Minaj launched her debut perfume called Pink Friday, named after the title of one of her albums. The colorful - in every sense - diva who describes herself as a cross between Barbie and the Harajuku fashion culture in Tokyo, Japan hence her self-labeling as a "Harajuku Barbie" was following up on her incursion in the beauty category with her collaboration with MAC cosmetics, their most sucessful to date, and which is reenacted in 2013...

Minaj told WWD on September 7, 2012 that the design for her fragrance bottle by Lance McGregor of Paul Meyers and Friends was key to her, “They asked me, ‘What do you feel is a real extension of you?’ And I said, ‘There’s nothing more synonymous with Nicki Minaj than a pink wig. If I could get that on the bottle, that would really make me feel like this fragrance is a part of me — my history and my future.”

The "intoxicating musky floral" was composed by Nicki Minaj together with Firmenich and is commercialized by Elizabeth Arden. The current Macy's department store ad copy reads,

It was a very successful launch in the celebrity category in 2012, with a new flanker out this spring 2013.
