Last year, Revlon launched a new advertising campaign meant to tie in the cultivation of love with the cultivation of beauty: alluring lipsticks were coming to the rescue of love. In 2015, they are adding an eponymous perfume Love is On to the lineup, their first scent in 10 years...
Going back to the program they unveiled in the fall of 2014, you can read that,
"We are proud to unveil REVLON LOVE IS ON. A new mission of inspiring Love & connecting with people around the world. From the moment you put on Revlon makeup, we want love to captivate your imagination, to take you on a journey into the world of love, where you will be enchanted by its countless dimensions."
The vastly populist campaign - the Revlon ad effort even includes monthly love horoscopes - will now waft of a blend of Italian lemon and sweet berry, which is saying little about how the perfume will smell like, except that it leans towards being a fruity-floral composition, a popular fragrance genre.
The tag line is "loved by women, irresistible to men," a possible indication that the brand worked on blending those notes which scientific studies have shown to be more or less favored by the different genders.
The fragrance flacon offers the shape of a heart visibly influenced by a Platonician notion of love whereby two separate entities come together to form a more complete being. Of course, in the case of Revlon those two halves are red lips forming a perfect ruby pout, marketing logic oblige.
