French niche brand By Kilian, which have veered more haute and luxe in the recent period, are launching a new perfume called Some Like it Hot in their The Art of Love collection, which takes a page from the history of Russian imperial magnificence as inspiration...

The flacon by Pochet du Courval and Solev is a modern - and reportedly innovative - update on the famous Fabergé eggs. The technical challenge for the artisans and industrialists was to create a "perfect surface".

Like the annual surprise enshrined in them for the Tsar of Russia, each fragrance copy holds a surprise, which for the label is by choice a love-making accessory, this time a black silk cord for playing games of sexual submission.

The composition is signed by French perfumer Calice Becker of Givaudan, who has mentioned that she has been culturally influenced by her Russian family roots. The eau de parfum mixes notes of hazelnut (noisettes; леснoй орех) - Russians love to dwell in foresty smells - lychee and Turkish rose, the latter seen as a fitting symbol of romantic love. It is a common olfactory thread running throughout this library dedicated both to Russia and love, 50-Shades-of-Grey style perhaps more than Billy-Wilder style.
