A Street Sits for a Portrait © CHANT WAGNER
Street Portraits, Portraits of Streets Series
I see this photograph as one which has the quality of a portrait. It says something about this stretch of Paris street - and the city as a whole - even France, like a person's portrait can tell something about a whole family...
What is says in my view is that here the new Paris enamoration for blue, white, red and graffitis meets the old, more traditional Paris.
The fact that the graffiti resembles Arabic calligraphy in its style is also, it seems, telling.
There is an expressive stillness to this picture, but it is also very much a picture taken in 2016. It is not timeless, rather historical.
