News Flash: Olibanum, Acqua Viva by Profumum Roma {New Perfumes} Upscale Italian niche perfume house Profumum Roma will launch two new perfumes on June 20th 2007. One is an incense scent called Olibanum. The other one is named Acqua Viva and is an hesperidic scent. We will review Acqua di Sale today, continuing our series on salty perfumes. Vivara by Pucci {New Perfume}
Italian fashion brand Pucci is bringing back the name and some of the ideas of the old Vivara perfume to the market by preparing to launch a new Vivara perfume in September of 2007. The perfume is a chypre and shares a common note of galbanum with the older concoction which was introduced in 1966. The 25th Anniversary of L'Eau d'Hadrien by Annick Goutal + New Website {Fragrance News} {Luxury perfume} To celebrate the 25th anniversary of L'Eau d'Hadrien, Annick Goutal is issuing a limited luxury edition of their famous citrus perfume, together with a series of ancillary products for the bath, including a candle, called "Art du Bain" (Art of the Bath, from 45 to 65 Euros). The lovely you see on the picture is limited to 1000 copies. Each flacon is hand-painted by Caroline Rennequin and numbered from 1 to 1000. They retail for 250 Euros. Fleurs de Sel by Miller Harris {Perfume Review & Musings} {New Perfume} Fleurs de Sel (Flowers of Salt, from "fleur de sel", "the best part of the salt") by Miller Harris is the latest creation by Lyn Harris. It is part of the Nouvelle Edition collection of more "unique and exclusive fragrances" from the house. We are told that it was inspired by a village in Brittany called Batz-Sur-Mer where the perfumer owns a vacation home and has spent some of the happiest moments in her life. The poetic title for the perfume, Fleurs de Sel, invited some daydreaming about wild flowers growing in an unruly fashion by the salt marshes of a little corner in Brittany. In reality, the scent surprises in two senses. First, it seems closer in spirit to two recent creations by Chanel, namely 31, Rue Cambon and No 18, than to a familiar haunt by the sea. And interestingly enough, Miller Harris specifies that “This fragrance was created and finalised in Batz sur Mer, Summer 2006”, in case we had any doubts about the originality of the composition and its use of the painting-in-the-field Impressionistic technique. Second, the scent is closer to a warm oriental than to a marine, airy scent, an effect that is actually advertised by the house itself as it describes it as "deeply sensual and earthy". The interpretation of a northerly remote sea-side village is therefore less than literal. Again, if one expected a realistic rendition of a bucolic spot in wind-battered Brittany, one will not find it. It seems rather that Fleurs de Sel is trendy and strongly derivative and inscribes itself in the neo-chypre movement, the one illustrated recently by Serge Lutens Chypre Rouge, but even more closely and recently by Jacques Polge for Chanel. A common source of supply might explain the similarities with the latter's works......

Nearly 20 years after the introduction of the now classic Fahrenheit, in 1988, and several summer limited editions later, Dior has struck again, coming up once more with an unconventional men’s perfume playing with gender boundaries through the uninhibited showcasing of a central floral bouquet enhanced by salicylates, which are used to create a blooming effect. This time, like for Jean-Paul Gaultier Fleur du Mâle in 2007, it is based on orange blossom. Sky by Gendarme {New Perfume} Gendarme has introduced its latest scent called Sky. It features "top notes of sparkling bergamot, sweet lime, green lemon cardamom and cognac; mid-notes of Magnolia flower and Asian pepper oil and a dry down of warm woods and luxurious Spanish moss." As previously reported and now according to a new press release, the upcoming perfume by Prince, 3121, will be bottled in this very purple perfume flacon meant to recall a facetted diamond. It will also be marketed by relying heavily on auspicious numerological references. Copyrights Announcement {Ask Marie-Helene} Bryant Park by Bond No 9 now has a newly designed bottle following, apparently, issues over copyright infringement that would have been brought up by the Italian fashion brand Pucci. Their trademark bold concentric ovals are out, but the colors remain similar. For a pic of the old bottle you can go here.
