Diabolo Rose is the latest rose perfume creation by Les Parfums de Rosine, a niche perfume house established in 1991 and located at the Palais Royal in Paris, which centers its collection exclusively on the queen of the flowers, her majesty the rose. The perfume was composed by nose François Robert interpreting an idea proposed by Marie-Hélène Rogeon, the founder and owner of the brand. The scent is described as a fresh floral, which is adequate enough, except that this does not do entirely justice to the central showcasing of the heavier sensual character of the rose absolute......

In November of 2007, London-based niche perfume house Ormonde Jayne will launch a new website that will allow American customers to procure the products from the brand more easily. Their latest creation is Orris Noir, a dark, spicy, Oriental scent that includes notes of davana, pink pepper, cardamom, iris, coriander seed, bergamot, jasmine sambac absolute, pimento berries, bay, cinnamon, incense, myrrh, patchouli, Chinese cedar, saffron, and civet. Sonia Rykiel is offering a new fragrance for the summer called Woman Hot! With a wink at consumers who might feel tired by one too many fruity-floral perfume falling into their laps, the brand audaciously and with some humor states that it purports to reinvent the fruity-floral genre with it. Well, who knows?
Top notes are blood orange and grapefruit. Heart notes are tiare flower, gardenia, and violet. Base notes are amber, sandalwood, musk, and vanilla. It is sold exclusively at Marionnaud, 46 Euros for 75 ml. (Sources: Madame Figaro, Marionnaud.fr)
Oscar Red Orchid is a new limited-edition summer fragrance from Oscar de la Renta, which will be available from July 15 2007 in travel retail. "The juice is described as a “voluptuous fragrance filled with the seductive scent of red orchids and the sparkle of summer”. Aside from its floral heart, key notes include mandarin, blackberry, blueberry, sandalwood and iris. Oscar Red Orchid will be priced in travel retail at €32 for a 60 ml." (Source: The Moodie Report)
Notes: Top: Green of hyacinth, bergamot, muguet; heart: rose, ylang, hawthorn, heliotrope, almond-y notes; base: cedar, sandalwood, patchouli, vetiver, tonka bean. Jacomo For Her by Jacomo is one of those fragrances that we like to call "closet-musk fragrances"(see Floris Malmaison), whose definite musky nature and erotic power lie further hidden within the folds of the perfume. They are not advertised officially as musk fragrances, but they possess the simplicity of purpose of their less subtle sisters who bear the title of a day or evening program of erotic approach on their packages. "Musk" is written in bold lettering on the box to help guide the shopping hand; it would flash and twinkle if it could. "Buy me, I will make you more desirable..." are the words whispered by practically every perfumes on earth, but musk fragrances, even more so than others, are born to seduce......

The young Paris-based niche perfume house Nez à Nez, with roots in Grasse, founded by Christa Patout and her husband Stéphane Humbert in 2005 is planning to further expand this year. You can read the interview we had with them last year. Their collection of fragrances, composed by perfumer Karine Chevallier, will be available in the US from September 2007 in department stores such as Barneys, Bergdof Goodman, Bloomingdales, and elsewhere. Time to get seriously flirty! As the temperatures are rising, The Body Shop is launching a series of new fragrance products based on its ever-popular best-seller White Musk oil. The scent is now available in eau de toilette and eau de parfum concentrations as well as in a Sensual Shimmer Fragrance to be applied to the pulse points and a Body Mist and more. Reading the description of the notes, the scent sounds like it could be one of those new chypres or at least offer a chypre facet to it.....

Rumour had it that Serge Lutens was preparing to launch a new fragrance based on almond. Well the rumour has been confirmed, together with the announcement of yet another creation to be also expected in the fall, in September of 2007. One is named Louve (She-Wolf), which centers on a soft balm-like bitter almond note "white like a snow castle atop a mountain". The other one is a velvet-like floral called Sarrasins (Saracens) inspired by Moresque culture and showcases a "petrifyingly beautiful jasmine, gloved in black ink the color of bats."......

Night Scented Jasmine by Floris London is the 2006 recreation by in-house perfumer Shelagh Foyle of an original fragrance composed by Juan Floris in 1806. The house of Floris was established in 1730 by Juan Famenias Floris a Spaniard hailing from the island of Menorca who had studied perfumery for a time in Montpellier, France at the time a major center of European perfumery. The flagship store is still, quite remarkably so, located at the original address at 89 Jermyn Street. Initially a barber and comb-maker store, it soon evolved into a fashionable London perfumery with the creation of its first perfume and commercial success called Lavender, which is still available today. Sometimes presented as the oldest perfumery still in existence this honor could be in reality disputed at least by Santa Maria Novella in Florence, est. 1612 (but more ancient than that), if one makes abstraction of the doubling up of the latter as a pharmacy......

Kenzo will launch a new men's fragrance in August of 2007 named Tokyo. It is inspired by the streaks of colors traversing the Tokyo-by-night landscape. The perfume was composed by Marie Salamagne of Firmenich who has decided to assign certain perfume notes to certain characteristic colors to recreate the visual impressions of a young man discovering the Japanese capital city for the first time after a long trip....

Guerlain will introduce a new feminine fragrance called L'Instant Magic on September 1 2007. As reported by the brand, the new perfume has no filiation whatsoever with the original L'Instant except for a sensation of freshness that cuts across the whole fragrance. Wouldn't it be more exciting to give it an altogether new name then? Apparently the needs of branding have overcome. Not only are the juices becoming more stereotypical, but the names of the perfumes are following that trend as well. Although please note that in this case, the perfume will be different, but the name will be confusingly similar to the original L'Instant........
