PERFUME: The Story of a Murderer
Based on the International Best-Selling Novel, Star-Studded Thriller Wafts onto
DVD July 24, 2007
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – A spellbinding tale of the inescapable seduction of obsession, madness and murder, PERFUME: The Story of a Murderer makes its DVD debut on July 24, 2007 from Paramount Home Entertainment. Director Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run) elegantly weaves eroticism and murder together in a visually stunning film that compelled Roger Ebert to proclaim “…you will not stop watching it, in horror and fascination.” Based on the international best-selling novel by Patrick Suskind, PERFUME is set in 18th century France amidst both the foul odors of the streets and the divinely-inspired scents of the perfumer’s workshop. The film tells the story of Grenouille, an orphan with a preternaturally refined sense of smell, who becomes apprentice to a once-renowned perfumer. As his reputation develops, Grenouille seeks to capture the most intoxicating scent he’s ever experienced—the natural fragrance of a beautiful young woman—but his obsession with bottling the female essence takes a gruesome and deadly turn. Starring Ben Whishaw (Layer Cake) as Grenouille, the film also features Academy Award®-winner Dustin Hoffman (Stranger Than Fiction, I Heart Huckabees), Golden Globe®-winner Alan Rickman
(Harry Potter films) and Rachel Hurd-Wood (An American Haunting). The PERFUME DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette entitled “The Story of PERFUME”.
The PERFUME DVD is presented in widescreen enhanced for 16:9 TVs with Dolby Digital English 5.1 Surround and English 2.0 Surround and French, English and Spanish subtitles. Total runtime is 147 minutes. The DVD includes the behind-the-scenes featurette “The Story of PERFUME”.
