Fresh will launch its own interpretation of a rose fragrance in the spring of 2008 with Cannabis Rose, a companion scent to Cannabis Santal introduced in 2006. It aims to be a more feminine adaptation of the original cannabis accord. Cannabis Santal, although marketed as a unisex perfume, reportedly tends to be perceived as a masculine scent......

Cécile Martin,a young French perfume designer, founder and owner of Sahlini Parfums wanted to combine the contrasted perfumery traditions of her Indian origins and Western upbringing. In 2006 she released a duo of perfumes called La Femme and L'Homme, which have become better publicized since then (French Elle Oct 2007). More perfumes are to come (Shahs).
La Femme is described as a delicate Indian oriental. It features top notes of fresh notes, orange blossom; heart notes are jasmine, tuberose, and patchouli; base notes are sandalwood, vanilla, and musk.......
Durance en Provence has released a new rose-based perfume called Ancian Rosa, an eau de toilette made with petals of Rose Centifolia inspired by the "old roses of Grignan".
"The head note is a bright blend of hesperides, fresh and bubbly. The heart is an intertwining of flowery notes: rose, violet, jasmine. In the background patchouli and musk confer a deep and sensual touch."
The 3.3 oz eau retails for 17 €. A series of ancillary products accompany it, including a hand-cream.
We have more details regarding the new collection of decorative scented candles issued by Maxim's de Paris the legendary Parisian restaurant, just in time for the Holidays. We lingered a bit more on the series called Belle Epoque last time, now there is more practical information about the Sem collection named after the famous caricaturist Georges Goursat who used to haunt the restaurant in its early days.
Incidentally, please consider all of our new scented products and perfume announcements as ideas for possible presents to be offered this end of the year. These have to be good and if they are new, wouldn't it be even more exciting to offer and to receive as a way of feeling the Zeitgeist?
The Sem candle collection comprises Bergamot Eclat, Figuier Blossoms, and Fruit Glace.......

Inhaling the different facets of the new quatuor of perfumes by Frapin which includes Terre de Sarment, Caravelle Epicée, Passion Boisée, and Esprit de Fleurs, put out by the venerable multi-secular French Cognac house ("established" coincidentally on a date marking the end of a period in the Middle Ages in 1270 cf. death of Saint-Louis during the 8th and last crusade) is as close as one can get to taking a stroll in imagination around the 300 hectares Frapin domain and, one surmises, smelling some of Béatrice Cointreau’s favorite smells. She also more recently added Champagne Gosset to the family enterprise.
By now with all these names that are the names of both real people and famous alcohols one will have understood that for a specialized contingent of liqueur and wine producers the relationship between wine-making and perfume-making may quickly have become a self-evident one, that is upon further thoughts........
This delightful object is a "pistolet à parfum" from the end of the 18th century. It is made of enameled gold and fine pearls. The petals of the bud open becoming a flower to reveal a vinaigrette in its heart. The golden blossom could release perfumes or the effluvia of salts for ladies on the verge of fainting. There is also a timepiece inserted in the perfume pistolet (see on the right). Exquisite.
The French exceptionalism regarding celebrity fragrances is officially defunct now with the launch of the Gallic version of a celebrity perfume called Loana Eau de Parfum. French celebrity perfumes have appeared in the past already as early as in the days of Jean Marais or in the 1980s with Catherine Deneuve or 90s with Inès de la Fressange, but the trend appeared rather placid in France compared to the UK or the US. With Loana, the whole concept is getting a contemporary adaptation and shaking of the cobwebs as the design of the bottle and the advert look very close to their British equivalents, in other words, very pink (see our Celebrity Perfumes page)......
Rochas, the fashion and perfume house that launched Femme, Madame Rochas, Eau de Rochas, Tocade and more is preparing to introduce a new feminine fragrance on February 1st 2008 simply called Soleil (Sun).
The scent is described as featuring luminous florals, vanilla, woods, and meltingly good fruits. The advert is fronted by model Morgane Dubled.
Highly recommended read. It is especially illuminating on the kind of balance a great (and successful) creative perfumer attempts to strike between (needed) commercialism and his reflection on art. After discovering Maurice Roucel's perfumes such as Tocade, 24 Faubourg, L'Instant, Insolence, Musc Ravageur and many more you can also discover his sense of humor, earthiness, and intelligence in this interview given to Symrise,
"Monsieur Roucel, Perfumes classically consist of smells from meadows and forests, fruits and flowers, water and wood. But traditional perfumery has moved into the 21st century. What new challenges does this bring to perfumers?
That’s not at all true! Since aldehydes were first used in perfumery in the 1920s in Chanel No. 5, perfumes have become much more abstract and are full of ingredients that cannot be found in nature......
It is that time of the year again when the brainstorming session for the Holidays season starts anew. What to offer? We will go for new things and if you are waiting until the last weeks of the year to shop for Christmas, you will have the advantage of being able to offer the newest things to have appeared in the stores........
