Editions de Parfums, under the helm of its founder and perfume editor Frédéric Malle, has unveiled its latest fragrance composition titled Dans Tes Bras (In Your Arms). It was created by perfumer Maurice Roucel. The celebrated French perfumer is also the author of Editions de Parfums Musc Ravageur, Rochas Tocade, Guerlain L'Instant, Insolence, Lolita Lempicka L, to name a few. It is thus Roucel's second contribution to the select offerings of this Parisian niche perfume house which is well-known for its quest for excellence and ambition in durably impacting the course of contemporary perfumery.

The Editions de Parfums creations tend to be both demandingly intellectual and to privilege sensuality; with Maurice Roucel in the equation, he who is well-reputed for his sensualist approach and love of women, one can expect the sensual side to be prominent.

His first creation for the brand, Musc Ravageur, soon became a new reference for musk perfumes....

Frédéric Malle confessed his slight apprehension at the possibility of not being able to replicate the previous success of Musc Ravageur, a best-seller of the house, which explains in part why Roucel and him put off a new collaboration apart from the fact that the perfumer was also extremely busy. Work on Dans Tes Bras reportedly started in 2006.

The new creation is based on a key sensual ingredient, Cashmeran, a mix of musk, woods, and resins. Dans Tes Bras reportedly features an overdose of it. Both Malle and Roucel are said to be passionate about this raw material.

About the spirit of the new fragrance Frédéric Malle said,

"Rather than an extroverted sensuousness, we tried to illustrate
the scent of intimacy, a sort of trace of the loved one, something
that we'd want to keep forever, an understated perfume, a quiet
addiction."

Both men worked on sculpting and snapping into place the "Rubik's Cube" of the scent of bare skin,

"We hoped to capture the deep and lasting odor of warm skin, with all its salty hints and rich, intimate complex overtones"

Malle is so pleased and personally touched with the result that he decided to have a  well-known radiologist take a MRI of Maurice Roucel's brain in an attempt to try to understand the inner workings of Roucel, the magician. So what you see in the second picture is indeed quite extraordinary, an imaging of a perfumer's brain or Maurice Roucel seen from the inside.

Notes: bergamot, clove, violet, jasmine, sandalwood, patchouli, salicylates, incense, Cashmeran, heliotrope, white musk.

Dans Tes Bras will launch in the US in November 2008. A 100 ml bottle is priced at $200 and a 50 ml one at $150.
