The upcoming new movie by Ridley Scott, Prometheus, the highly anticipated sci-fi opus taking place in the year 2085 will debut on June 8, 2012; it was partially unveiled last Saturday with the release of its official HD trailer by 20th Century Fox. Unlike Blade Runner and Alien, it will be digitally remastered in the IMAX 3-D format to amp up the sensory experience. No olfactory dimension yet but if there were one it should smell of fried steak.

The Alien reference is there but according to Charlize Theron speaking recently to a French magazine, it is not a prequel of Alien. It draws on that mythology but it's a story that stands on its own....

From the press copy,

"Ridley Scott, director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner," returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race."...

Michael Fassbender commented on the script to HitFIx saying that,

"I was like, 'This is really great. When is it going to fall apart?' And then it just got better and better," Fassbender says. "It's rare to get intelligent scripts and scripts where you can't really put your finger on what's going to happen 10 pages in and you're not aware of the arcs of the characters or what their journeys are going to be.  So, it's a page turner and hopefully it will be like that visually and I'm sure it will be because Ridley's a genius."

Cast: Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, Charlize Theron.

Written by Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof ("Lost").
