Pop diva Mariah Carey will release her 12th fragrance from April 2013. It is entitled Dreams and is billed as a "sensual floral gourmand" which uses notes that reflect her life journey like for her debut perfume, M.
Despite the fact that celebrity fragrances are usually suspected of being soulless cookie-cutter fragrances, they can be actually quite reflective of the celeb's personality in as much as they like to include some of their favorite smells in the blend...
Mariah took stock at this point in her career as a fragrance developer and said that,
“The process of developing a fragrance is exhilarating and it takes me to another place within my creative self, which is why I enjoyed creating Mariah Carey Dreams. I humbly call myself a ‘perfumer in training’ because I love it so much – almost as much as I love making music. I have the utmost respect for the perfumers because they have the ability to combine a few simple scents into a classic and exciting fragrance.”
The eau de parfum opens on top notes of salted caramel apple, star anise, bergamot and toasted almonds. In the heart there is honeysuckle, freesia and lily of the valley. Base notes are warm patchouli, tonka bean and Madagascar vanilla.
The flacon carries her mascot, the butterfly, while its curves allude to a Champagne flute, "a tribute to Mariah's festive nature."
Unsurprisingly, the perfume is a gourmand scent, a family of fragrances that is particularly strongly carried by the sector of the market devoted to celebrity perfumes as desserty notes are, like desserts and divas, well, quite popular.
Prices: $49 for 50 ml and $39 for 30 ml. Launch will be exclusive to Kohl's at the beginning.
