A horticulturist from Geneva, Charles Millo, is developing several new species of extra perfumey roses that would be sold solely for their aromas. The idea is to sell a rose as you would a bottle of wine. Just one of these roses tucked in a bouquet would be enough to scent the bouquet itself and the room in which the bouquet is to be found.......

Starting in May of 2007, Guerlain will inaugurate a new series of perfumery workshops that will be open to the public. There will be workshops for adults called Les Contes Parfumés (Perfumed Tales) where 10 people at a time will be initiated to the history of Guerlain and to the creation of a perfume.....

This is a picture of a perfume vial salvaged from the Titanic. It will be exhibited at the Ontario Science Center for the exhibition called The Artifact Exhibition. It is described as "a perfume vial from Adolphe Saalfeld, a perfume maker from Manchester who was heading to New York [in 1912]to take advantage of the booming perfume market,"........

Perfume designer Stéphanie de Saint-Aignan now has a website through which one can contact her. Each year, she puts out a new collection. However, if one becomes dearly attached to a particular fragrance, one can use the coupon found with each purchased bottle and register. This gives you the possibility to order copies of the fragrance at any time in the future as long as the brand is alive.

Carole Bouquet is a French actress who has fallen in love with Pantelleria in Sicily and its tradition of wine-making. Over the years she succeeded in buying the small lands of over 70 peasants from the island in order to revive the making of a Passito wine from Pantelleria. The result is reportedly "divine". The grapes, a muscat grape from Alexandria called Zibbido there, are hand-picked and left to dry on the ground so that they can imbibe the aromas of figs and fennels. The result is a rich fragrant wine with further hints of cinnamon, orange blossom, and candied apricots, amongst other notes.
You can read a review of the wine in French on Sommelier-Consultant, Paris. You can buy it here for 40 Euros. Other source: Chroniques du Plaisir

Sarah Jessica Parker will launch her second perfume in September of 2007 following Lovely. It is called Covet and was created with Ann Gottlieb and Firmenich. The scent is described as a "fougère on estrogen" as fougere is traditionally considered to be a fresh aromatic masculine accord (bergamot, lavender, coumarin, geranium, oakmoss...), which gives its name to a family of perfume. Ann Gottlieb is a nose and perfume consultant well-known for her flair for producing best-sellers (Obssession, J'Adore, Euphoria, 5th Avenue....). Source: Women's Wear Daily
To accompany the launch of their latest releases, CK IN2U for Her and Him, Calvin Klein is attempting to better understand/promote the so-called "techno-sexual" generation, a controversial expression they used in their advertising campaign for the new scents. To do this, they are proposing a competition in which participants are asked to answer the question "What are you IN2? The top 3 will receive $1000 and the winner, $10 000......

Hypnôse Homme is the latest release by Lancôme meant to be, in advertising terms essentially, the masculine flanker to Hypnôse Femme. British actor Clive Owen is the face for the fragrance bringing his well-cultivated rugged good looks to the representation of classic masculinity that the perfume stands for. His hand over the flacon, mimicking that of the feminine model for Hypnôse Femme (Daria Werbowy), seems more docile and sedate than one would wish for and dampens a bit, in my view, the sought-after image of a magnetic virile man. That is that it seems to me that the brand-recognition marketing effort comes in the way of the unadulterated perception of a man that "...embodies a certain hypnotic charm. With a flick of a smile and lift of a brow, he hints at mysteries." The perfume was created by nose Maurice Roucel of Symrise who said of Hypnôse Homme that "it's both modern and quite classic," adding "The idea was to have something flesh [sic], something watery on top and fiery in the dry-down,". An English touch in homage to Clive Owen is conveyed by a lavender note. But Owen himself confessed "...that the formula for Hypnose Homme was already in place when he arrived on the project." The personality of the scent is both conservative and sensual. There is nothing outwardly very original here, but a true sensual presence and an appreciation of rich sophisticated materials......

Dolce & Gabbana are releasing a masculine counterpart to Light Blue Pour Femme, a top best-seller. It is called Light Blue Pour Homme and is described as a woody spicy scent inspired by the sensual aromas of the Mediterranean. As reported, "The fragrance is wearable and highly distinctive — it took us two to three years to develop this fragrance, because the standards of Dolce & Gabbana are very, very high,".....

As previously reported, Sarah Jessica Parker is going to launch her second fragrance named Covet. True to her word, she is this time launching a perfume that represents the "vixen" side of her that she was not able to express with Lovely, which represents her "well-behaved" side. She had said in the past to Chandler Burr that she regretted not being able to create a dirtier scent where Lovely was concerned. It sounds promising, don't you think?

Bond No9 is preparing to launch their 29th fragrance on June 1st 2007. As usual, the perfume bears the name of a New York locale, this time, Coney Island, an apt source of inspiration for a summertime fragrance. The composition of the fragrance sounds like that of a modern-day gourmand aphrodisiac. Top notes are Margarita mix, with fiery Tequila Blanco already poured in, un-humble melon that goes way beyond fruit salad, freshly ripened guava that's naughty but sweet. The heart has cinnamon in sensual mode (fougedaboud apple pie), chocolate, pour-able caramel, out to intoxicate. Base notes are decadent, un-redeemed musk, together with vanilla, cedarwood, sandalwood......

Queen Alexandra (1844-1925) was Queen Consort to Edward VII of the United Kingdom and was reputed for her beauty as well as her sense of style (see center of the photo). She reportedly had an influence on the fashion of wearing scents which had at one time fallen into disrepute. Here follows an excerpt from an article that gives us an insight into the taste of the day, that is that of 1904, and mentions a perfume worn by Alexandra of Denmark, to which I will add another name that I saw mentioned elsewhere. It is also interesting to note that the current higher level of intolerance for perfume-wearing in public spaces that exists in some areas finds an echo in that era......

Frédéric Malle is going to launch a new perfume in May of 2007 called, yes, French Lover (do we see an influence from Etat Libre d'Orange here? See for example the humor in the name of their latest Delicious Closet Queen). Apparently, the name was retained after a female friend of Frederic Malle's exclaimed as she smelled him while greeting him "Very French Lover!". The scent was created by perfumer Pierre Bourdon. Reportedly, Frédéric Malle's initial idea for the fragrance was to compose a more robust version of Angéliques Sous La Pluie (by Jean Claude Ellena). Both the designer and nose soon moved away from the idea to create a sophisticated masculine scent: "A hyper sensual aroma, but without it being vulgar/showy".......

Parfum d'Empire, which specializes in the creations of fragrances inspired by some of the great geo-political behemoths of the past, is said to launch a trio of scents at the end of June 2007. There will be a woody orris scent inspired by the Roman empire, a blonde tobacco fougere based on the imaginings of the Indian colonial empire, and a fruity floral centering on osmanthus for the Chinese empire. The two previous releases were Cuir Ottoman and Iskander Source: Osmoz.fr

MaxMara is launching a perfume called Silk Touch this month, which is described as a fruity woody concoction. The name suggests a discrete functional skin scent. It was created by perfumer Daphné Bugey of Firmenich. It will be available in 40 ml and 90 ml flacons. Source: www.copines.ca
