Israeli researchers have succeeded in incorporating aromas of lemon and rose into a new kind of GM tomato.
The transgenic tomato includes a gene from a variety of lemon basil, Ocimum basilicum, that produces an aroma-making enzyme called geraniol synthase, Efraim Lewinsohn of Newe Yaar Research Centre and colleagues report......
These tomatoes are also paler due to the 50% reduction of lycopene in them, considered to be an antioxidant with health benefits.
