Wolfgang Joop will release what is presented as his second men's scent under this particular label following Wolfgang Joop (2008) (as opposed to the former label Joop! with which the founder of the brand is reportedly no longer involved.) The label Joop! itself has seen the introductions of Homme, Nightlife, Jump, Go and Thrill and has built a reputation for unconventional masculines.

The new cologne to debut in February 2010 in Germanophone Europe is called Freigeist (Freethinker).

According to WWD, Wolfgang Joop's reaction to the name proposed by Stefanie Fitzgerald VP of Marketing for Coty Prestige was,

"My goodness, what a heavy word for a light scent.'" ...

The Eau de Toilette was composed by perfumers Sophie Labbé and Aliénor Massenet of IFF. The masculine composition takes liberties with conventions by showcasing a floral heart of wild jasmine. The scent is described as a fresh floral fougère.

Opening note: gin

Sustained note: wild jasmine

Lingering notes: wild leather and mahogany wood

The bottle, like the first cologne, is inspired by the style of the Bauhaus and was designed by Lutz Hermann.

"The five-unit Freigeist range is comprised of 50- and 90-ml. eaux de toilette priced at 50 and 70 euros, or $75 and $105 at current exchange rates; a 90-ml. aftershave splash for 50 euros, or $75, and a 200-ml. hair and body wash and a 75-ml. deodorant stick, both priced at 22 euros, or $33."
