Serge Lutens will launch a new perfume from June 2010 called Bas de Soie (Silk Stockings). This fragrance visibly continues to develop his series of reflections on a sartorial theme after Serge Noire (2008) and Fourreau Noir (2009). As is evident, a contrasted white-and-black thematic gets further explored here hinting at both an existential and metaphysical mood. As we can expect from the artistry of the brand, this goes further than just perfume as fashion.

The composition is said to be a pairing of hyacinth and iris and little besides that is given away except to offer more information about the inspiration for the fragrance...

When interviewed and asked if Serge Lutens considered the act of putting on stockings an erotic or potentially erotic one, Lutens had occasion to clarify his vision of this iconic moment of seduction as one being for him something else entirely,

"What'll you ask me next? (He laughs.) No, I see it as a delicate operation
requiring a degree of quasi-scientific precision. The consecrated stocking clings to her body, the very act creating the illusion of longer and slimmer legs, enhanced with a dark shroud if the silk is black, or a deathlike pallor if it is white. A veiled reference to mourning, she's playing the merry widow and flirting with death
."

Lutens also added that his vision for the perfume came to him in part via cinematograhic representations of this quintessential moment.

The perfume will be introduced first as an exclusive at the Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido in June 2010 before being launched nationally in France in August 2010. The 50 ml flacon of Bas de Soie is priced at 79€.

The platinum-colored and sanded-glass engraved edition pictured above is a luxury edition priced at 300€ and will be available in the second semester of 2010.
