Designer Karl Lagerfeld will introduce a new limited-edition duo of her-and-him perfumes called Paradise Bay for Women & Men, a year after the launch of his duo of signature scents with Inter Parfums, a renewed attempt to get his fragrance vision off the ground...
Lagerfeld stressed that,
"Ich liebe Damen- und Herrendüfte: Sie machen das Leben einfach schöner."
"I love both women's and men's perfumes - they make life simply better."
Both fragrances are inspired by the imagery of a hidden-away, paradisiacal bay covered in warm sand. The latter makes me think of Chanel's predilection for the color beige and the beige of the sand on the Deauville beach in particular.
Paradise Bay for Women is co-authored by Serge Majoullier and Cécile Matton of Mane. They lend a new much more intense fruity bent to the original green oriental.
The opening features Lychee, Pineapple and Peach leading to a heart of Jasmine, Rose and Magnolia while the deeper notes are Sandalwood, Musk and Vanilla.
Paradise Bay for Men was composed by perfumer Jean-Christophe Hérault of IFF. The original aromatic fougère is now replaced by a woody fougère twist.
The top features Bergamot, Spearmint and Apple while the heart showcases Spicy Berries and Violet leaf, a favorite note of Karl Lagerfeld who had already made ample use of it in Karleidoscope, his fragrance developed with Coty previously in 2011. The base rests on Vetiver and Cashmere wood.
Both compositions look on paper to be rather classical and subdued, apparently the signature style that Lagefeld prefers to find in a bottle of perfume these days. This was not always the case if you think of Chloé, the original and KL.
You might not be convinced by this orientation, but you might start to recognize it as a personal style.
